Carbondale, IL – The Miami University men's swimming and diving team finished the final day of the Mid-American Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Championships in first on Saturday, March 5, at Southern Illinois University. The RedHawks picked up individual wins from Adrian Dulay and Jackson Miller to bring their team score to 823 and winning the championship. This is the second MAC Championship win in a row for the men's team following their victory last year.
The finals for the night started with the 1650 freestyle. Yonatan Rosin earned second place with a time of 15:31.49. Tommy Frye (15:52.40) also found a top 10 finish, taking seventh. The 200 backstroke had Zach Bann (1:46.69) and Owen Blazer (1:47.51) both placed within the top five, with Bann taking second and Blazer taking fourth. Mason Miller (1:51.27) and Diego Pareja (1:47.87) earned top 10 finishes with Miller in seventh and Pareja in ninth, while Fitz Miller (1:54.62) also landed in the top 20.
In the following 100 freestyle, Nic Wamsley (44.52), Jack Herczeg (44.61) and Ben Chatwin (44.67) all fell in the top five, with Wamsley in third, Herczeg in fourth and Chatwin in fifth. Pedro Gueiros (45.40) and Cole Grosshans (45.70) also placed in the top 20.
Dulay grabbed the top of the podium in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:58.54, while Sam Curran (2:01.77) came in tenth. The 200 butterfly had Henju Duvenhage taking third with a NCAA qualifying time of 1:45.40. Frye landed in seventh with a time of 1:50.08. In the last individual event of the championship, Miller put Miami in first in the three meter diving event, earning a NCAA Zone qualifying score of 363.30.
The final event of the championship was the 400 freestyle relay. The RedHawks' team of Duvenhage, Herczeg, Wamsley and Chatwin came in second with a combined time of 2:55.65 with splits of 44.91 from Duvenhage, 43.74 from Herczeg, 43.57 from Wamsley and 43.43 from Chatwin.
Miami continues through the tournament circuit with the NCAA Zone Diving Championships, running Monday, March 7, through Saturday, March 12. The 2021-22 season concludes with the NCAA Women's and Men's championships at Georgia Tech from Wednesday, March 16, to Saturday, March 19, for the women and Wednesday, March 23, to Saturday, March 26, for the men.
