CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Miami RedHawks remain in first place after three days of competition at the 2024 Mid-American Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships with 497 points. Missouri State continues to sit in second with 468.5 points, while Southern Illinois is right behind them in third with 428.5 points.
Miami’s Henju Duvenhage added his second individual gold medal of the week, touching first with a time of 46.37 in the 100 fly to open Friday’s finals. Duvenhage wasn’t done as the senior also picked up a victory in the 100 back (46.17).
The RedHawks captured its third individual victory of the night in the 400 IM as Allen Cotton paced the field with a 3:48.26 mark.
In the third event of the night, Alex Santiago tallied his second individual first-place finish in the 200 free, claiming gold with a mark of 1:36.33.
Ball State’s Joey Garberick continued to show his excellence in the 100 breast, claiming the event title for the fourth-straight year with the top mark of 51.93. Additionally, Garberick’s swim tied the conference record for the race.
Southern Illinois reeled in its second relay victory of the night to cap off Friday night action as Alex Santiago, Donat Csuvarszki, Nicolas Barrio Lanuza and Andor Benedek combined for a time of 1:18.00 in the 200 free relay, just off the conference record.
The Cardinals head into Saturday in fourth with 314 points, while UIC is in fifth with 275 points. Evansville (170) and Valparaiso (97) rounds out the field.
The fourth and final finals session of the 2024 MAC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships beings at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday with the 1,650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly , 3-meter diving and 400 free relay.
