Miami Captures Fourth-Straight MAC Men’s Swimming and Diving Title

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Miami RedHawks won the 2024 Mid-American Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving championship, accumulating 724 points over the four-day competition. This marked Miami’s fourth-straight MAC title. 

The RedHawks led from the opening night, sweeping the opening relay events on Wednesday night. In total, Miami reeled in six gold medals in Carbondale. 

Missouri State finished second, totaling 679.5 points, while Missouri State took the third spot with 657.5 points. 

Missouri State’s Dylan Moffatt opened the night with a victory in the 1,650 free with the top time of 15:13.67. This marked the fourth-straight season Moffatt claimed the event title. 

Southern Illinois captured its fifth title of the championships in the 200 back as Jered Moore won the event in a B-cut mark of 1:43.64. 

Alex Santiago gave the Salukis’ their second gold medal of the night, setting a new MAC record in 100 free with a blazing 42.42 swim. This marked the fifth-straight year SIU claimed the event as well as Santiago’s third individual event victory of the championships. 

Ball State’s Joey Garberick claimed his second first-place finish in as many nights as the senior won the 200 breast in a time of 1:54.78. Garberick won the 100 breast four times in his collegiate career. 

Southern Illinois wasn’t done breaking conference records as Jack Khrypunov’s winning time of 1:43.16 in the 200 fly shattered the previous MAC record by .14 seconds and secured SIU’s third individual gold of the night. 

UIC and Harrison Nolan continued to excel on the diving boards as Nolan swept the diving events, claiming the 3-meter on Saturday night with a total score of 362.15. The Flames registered the top three scores in both diving events this week. 

Southern Illinois tallied its fourth gold medal of the night in the 400 free relay as the Salukis set a new pool record with the winning time of 2:53.16.
