Akron Claims Early Lead On Day One of Zippy Invitational

Zips Claim Early Lead at the Zippy Invitational | Day 1 Results
AKRON, Ohio —
 Akron opened the 2025 Zippy Invitational with a first and second-place finish to take an early lead through day one.

The Zips started the night by winning the women's 200-yard medley relay in 1:38.61 behind Abbey CroninClaire CoxCallie Parkes and Ada Szwabinska. Akron's "I" relay added fourth-place points with a 1:41.93 showing.

Akron then placed second in the 800 freestyle relay, as Szwabinska, Helena LalkovicBrienne Trumpower and Hannah Trainer combined for a 7:18.58 finish—just .43 seconds behind Buffalo. The Zips' "I" relay also scored with a fifth-place 7:26.72.

Through two events, Akron leads the women's field with 218 points, ahead of Cornell (206) and Buffalo (204).

Buffalo Wins 800 Freestyle Relay on Opening Night of Zippy Invitational | Day 1 Results
AKRON, Ohio -
The University at Buffalo swimming and diving team competed in day one of Akron's Zippy Invite on Thursday. The seven women's programs in attendance began the four-day competition with two relay events, the 200-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay.

The Bulls highlighted day one by winning the 800-yard freestyle relay. Abbey GardnerBella ForsmanElise McCaul and Kamilla Nemes combined to finish the event with a season-best time of 7:18.15. The relay time was two seconds shy of reaching the program's all-time top 10 for the event (7:16.17).

"Really happy and proud of the women today," said Head Coach Andy Bashor. "They did a great job of preparing after our travel today. It was a great race for the women to win the 800 freestyle relay. It's always the goal to compete and win, and it feels good to get a win tonight."

The Bulls opened day one with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Vivian RoyPinar DonmezNicole Aguilar and Forsman combined to finish the event in 1:41.11, another season-best time for the program. The time was just over a second shy of reaching the program's all-time top 10 (1:40.08).

Day one of diving featured a team diving exhibition. The Bulls will compete in the three-meter event on Friday afternoon, with the finals scheduled for the evening session, beginning at 6 p.m.
