LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Kent State field hockey team surpassed the halfway point of MAC play on Friday, defeating Bellarmine 3-0 in the team's fifth conference contest of 2025. The Golden Flashes (3-8, 2-3) pick up their second consecutive road victory in the MAC after defeating Ball State 1-0 in overtime just under two weeks ago in Muncie.

The Kent State defense held the Knights to just four shots in the contest, as Allison Wood earned her second shutout of the season with one save. The Flashes extend their unbeaten record against Bellarmine, now holding a 7-0 advantage in the all-time series with the Knights.

Kent State tallied two first-quarter goals to establish an early advantage that the team would hold for the entire game. Lauren Conroy opened the scoring after five minutes with a successful penalty stroke after a foul drawn by Maia Sarrabayrouse. A senior defender, Conroy ranks third on the team with four goals this season. Eva Usoz doubled the Flashes' advantage just four minutes later with an impressive shot into the top corner from the edge of the arc. Kent State's 2024 leading scorer, Usoz, now has three goals in her 2025 campaign.

The Flashes received extra insurance in the third quarter as Emma Seger grabbed the team's third goal. A Louisville native, Seger made her mark on her homecoming appearance for her third goal of the season. A stout defensive effort in which Kent State conceded just one shot on target and one penalty corner across the entire game allowed the Flashes to close a comfortable 3-0 victory.

Kent State will return to action on Friday, October 17, with the team's penultimate home game of 2025 at Murphy-Mellis Field as the Flashes host Ohio at 2 p.m.

Athens, Ohio – The Ohio Field Hockey team (4-9, 2-3 MAC) returned to action on Friday afternoon, defeating the Ball State Cardinals (3-11, 1-4 MAC) 1-0 in a MAC conference matchup.

As a team, the Bobcats recorded seven shots with three on net, while the Cardinals had five shots with three on net.

Individually, the Bobcats were led by freshman Tiana Nhamoinesu (Thrisk, North Yorkshire), who scored her first goal as a Bobcat to give Ohio a 1-0 lead they would not relinquish. Continuing a trend, the Bobcats turned in another stellar defensive performance, led by sophomore Deborah James (Hertfordshire, England) who came up with crucial stops throughout the game to stymie the Cardinal attack.

In the cage, sophomore Ash Stephenson (Kingston Upon Hull, England) stopped all three shots faced to record her second clean sheet of the season.

Ball State put pressure on the Bobcat defense to open the game, as netminder Stephenson made a diving save to keep the Cardinals off the scoreboard. Ohio responded with offensive opportunities of their own, as freshmen Adi Geer (Newport, Pa.) and Karley DuCoin (Turnersville, NJ) each had shots that went wide of net. Stephenson made her second save of the day to stop a Ball State scoring opportunity near the end of the quarter, keeping the game scoreless after 15 minutes of play.

The second quarter was a defensive battle, as the Bobcat and Cardinal defenses limited the opposing attack to one shot each, sending the game to halftime still scoreless.

Playing down a player to open the second half, the Bobcats flipped the script as freshman Nhamoinesu stole the ball and set off towards the Cardinal goal on a breakaway, converting to give Ohio a 1-0 advantage. The Bobcats locked in on the defensive end from that point, as sophomore defender James came up with multiple crucial stops to prevent Ball State scoring opportunities.

The Bobcat defense turned it up another notch in the fourth quarter, preventing the Cardinal attack from recording a single shot in the period. Forced to play down a player again due to a green card at the 56:37 mark, senior Anouk Plaehn (Hanover, Germany) made another critical stop to help the Bobcats secure the victory, improving to 3-1 on the new turf at Pruitt Field.

The Bobcats will have the weekend off before returning to action next Friday, October 17 when they visit Kent State in a conference matchup. The game will be streamed on Boxcast.
