Molier, Fernandez, Mooldijk Collect Week 6 Field Hockey Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference has announced its Week 6 Field Hockey Award Winners, as voted on by the league's head coaches. James Madison sophomore forward Madelief Molier earned Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time in three weeks, while Miami freshman back Julia Fernandez took home Defensive Player of the Week and Longwood sophomore Sophie Mooldijk collected Goalkeeper of the Week recognition to solidify the latest round of weekly accolades.

Madelief Molier recorded three goals this past weekend with a hat trick against Ball State on Friday. Molier leads the Dukes with 11 goals in her sophomore campaign, and entered the week ranked 29th in the nation in goals per game (0.80).

MAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week
Julia Fernandez, Freshman, Back, Miami
Barcelona, Spain (Escola el Cim i Institut Montserrat Roig)

Julia organized a defense that allowed only 2 goals in 122 minutes, both to the #7 team in the nation. She started the week with a shutout against a team that had averaged over four goals a game, holding them to eight total shots with only six on cage and three PC. Against #7 Wake, Fernandez and the rest of the defense held the Deacs to six shots on goal and only five PC.

MAC Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week
Sophie Mooldijk, Sophomore, Longwood
Breda, Netherlands (Onze Lieve Vrouwelyceum)

Mooldijk weathered the storm against Kent State, facing 28 shots and making 15 saves while still keeping the Lancers in the game to allow Longwood to come back twice from one-goal deficits and win 3-2 in overtime. The sophomore goalkeeper registered six of her 15 saves in the second quarter to keep the Lancers within a goal at the half.
