PITTSBURGH – Freshman Mikaela Perkins' header goal was the difference as the Toledo women's soccer team produced a 1-0 victory over Duquesne at Rooney Field on Thursday.

The Rockets (4-1) stayed even with the Dukes (3-3) into the final 20 minutes, and built up several chances throughout the second half. After being stopped on a penalty kick a few minutes prior, Mikaela Perkins connected on a header for the opening and winning goal. Toledo has produced four-straight victories for the first time since 2023. Toledo has also earned three consecutive clean sheets on the road, having not allowed a road goal in over 271 minutes.

Toledo held a 17-8 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in shots on goal, including a 12-6 edge in the second half. Corner kicks were tied, 7-7, but the Rockets earned all seven of their corners in the second half.

Perkins scored her first career goal after getting her first career assist against Oakland on Aug. 27. The goal was assisted by Atley Pittman, her first of the season.

20' | Off a corner kick, a Duquesne shot was saved off the goal line by Rocket defender Abby-Lee Sanogo.
25' | A long strike by Ella Zoerhoff was saved off the crossbar by the Duquesne goalkeeper. Morgan Spitler's rebound chance was also denied.
37' | A Toledo cross was deflected by the goalkeeper but came to Mikaela Perkins, but her shot was blocked from a sliding play by the Duquesne defender.
70' | A Rocket corner kick produced a deflection shot from Sadie Walsh, but a reflex save by the goalkeeper kept the match scoreless.
71' | Toledo got a penalty kick from a Duquesne handball, but Mikaela Perkins' try was stopped.
74' | Another Rocket corner kick produced a Perkins' header, which bounced into the top corner for a 1-0 lead.

RICHMOND, Kentucky — The Miami University soccer team battled extreme heat Thursday in a 1-0 win against Eastern Kentucky University. Millie Cook delivered the match's lone goal to hand the Colonels their first loss at home since September of 2024. The RedHawks move to 3-3-0 with the result. EKU is also now 3-3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Dominique Popa made a punching save in the 12th minute to keep EKU off the board.
  • Miami's first chance came on a breakaway by Millie Cook, but it was saved and went just wide right in the 28th minute.
  • In the 29th minute, Jaden Sink had a clean header off a corner kick, but it went wide right.
  • The RedHawks had a great chance in the 55th minute after a pass by Kayla Perfect around midfield to Caroline Mortonson in the box, but the shot by Mortonson trickled wide right.
  • In the 62nd minute, there was a loose ball in the EKU box. Ava Boyd found the ball and got a shot off, but it was saved.
  • The RedHawks took the lead in the 68th minute, off a corner kick by Maris Jennings, headed by Cook into the back of the net, 1-0.
  • Katie O'Malley had a breakaway in the 84th minute, but the shot was saved.
  • Morgan Longacre made an incredible sliding play to keep the ball from rolling into the goal in the 87th minute.
  • Kailyn Morrison made a hustle play in the 89th minute, denying EKU of a game-tying opportunity.

  • Cook had four shots on goal and five total shots, both the most in a game of her career.
  • Jennings notched her first assist on the season.
  • Freshman Coltie Carson has played all 450 minutes the RedHawks have registered this season.

AKRON, Ohio — The Akron women's soccer team downed Cleveland State, 1-0, in a non-conference Northeast Ohio showdown at FirstEnergy Stadium.

After a weather delay that lasted over two hours, Addison Hall received a pass from Eesha Sutharshan inside the box and buried it in the center of the net to take the one-goal advantage in the 25th minute of the match.

It would be the lone shot the Zips faced in the first half, as the Vikings tallied five — two of which resulted in saves from goalkeeper Sara Bower.

The Akron defense kept stifling Cleveland State in the second stanza, allowing eight shots with five on goal but none reaching the back of the net.

In the 88th minute, Hall once again scored — this time off a throw in that she buried in the top right corner and sailed it over the goalkeeper's head.

For the match, Akron notched seven shots to the Vikings' 13. Bower posted seven saves in net.
