ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Toledo women's soccer team earned a clean sheet for its third-straight victory in a 1-0 road triumph over Oakland at the Oakland Soccer Field on Thursday afternoon.
The Rockets (3-1) and Golden Grizzlies (1-3) remained deadlocked until the end of the first half, when McKenna Schultz struck to put Toledo ahead, 1-0, in the 37th minute. The margin stood through a scoreless second half as the Rockets' defense allowed just two Oakland shots the entire match. UT had an 11-9 edge in shots, a 4-2 margin in shots on goal and a 4-2 edge in corners.
McKenna Schultz scored late in the first half, her second-straight goal. Her tally was assisted by Mikaela Perkins, her first career helper.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — "It's great to come here and show the community what we want to be, and what's building here."
Central Michigan Soccer tied its largest margin of victory in a home match Thursday night, 6-1, over Purdue Fort Wayne to open the 2026 home schedule.
"Hopefully that gets [the fans] excited and we see more people out to see us," Head Coach James DeCosemo said.
The Chippewas remain at home for their next two matches: next Thursday against Cincinnati (Sept. 3, 7 p.m.) and a week from Sunday against No. 22 Wisconsin (Sept. 7, 1 p.m.)
Rookie Claire Bergsma (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Central) stole the show early in her first start on the defensive end, finishing off a well-placed corner entry from Rachel Jackson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Detroit Country Day) to start the barrage in the seventh minute.
"That's why we brought in these quality players. We want them to make big plats and have big moments, and for a freshman to do that is really important."
Bergsma's big day also featured an assist on the Chippewas' second goal, scored by junior Ella Dykstra (Saint Joseph, Mich. / Saint Joseph) in the eighth minute, followed by an impressive chase-down stop of a Mastodon run immediately after that could have easily returned the match to a one-goal margin.
"If that's a goal, the game completely shifts. That's a big moment in her first start."
Seven CMU players finished with at least one point, all six goals coming from a different Chippewa. A 10-0 landslide in corner attempts, 21-5 advantage in overall attempts kept the pace all 90 minutes.
"It's what we want our games to look like: dominate where we play, dominate the speed the game's played at, then score goals."
Bergsma and fellow newcomer, sophomore Naomi Phillips (Markham, Ontario / Bill Crothers), led with three points each.
Central Michigan scored six goals at home for the first time at the CMU Soccer Complex, a feat matched only by matchup with Northern Illinois at Bennett Field in 2000—also a 6-1 result—15 years prior to the arrival of the program's new home.
Phillips and senior Jordan Bailey (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Huntington Beach) each scored their second of the season to maintain their hold on the team lead early in the season. CMU has scored the same number of goals through four matches this season (9) as it had last season.
