AMHERST, Mass. – A five-goal effort powered the University of Massachusetts women's soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Yale on Thursday evening at Rudd Field. The Minutewomen tallied their highest goal total of the season, and the most since scoring five against Davidson on September 24, 2023.
Caroline Dickson posted her first brace of the season, with Annie McCaffrey, Monica Curry and Lexi Terry each notching a goal. It marked McCaffrey's second goal of the season, Curry's fifth and Terry's first career tally.
The Minutewomen improve to 5-1-0 overall, while the Bulldogs moved to 3-4-0 on the year.
McCaffrey netted a goal early for Massachusetts giving the team a 1-0 lead at the 6:04 mark. Peyton Costello corralled a ball just outside the box on the left side, before sailing it over inside towards McCaffrey. McCaffrey got a touch on it and booted it high towards the back top right corner of the net.
Just shy of three minutes later, the Minutewomen extend their lead, 2-0. From midfield, Nia Hislop passed the ball up, finding Dickson. Dickson then dribbled the ball just inside the 18-yard box and pushed it past the Yale goalkeeper at the 9:01 mark. UMass held on to its lead heading into halftime.
In the 52nd minute, Curry raced to the ball alongside a Bulldog defender, getting the jump out on the ball. Curry forced the Yale keeper out of the box and maneuvered around her. Alone inside the box, Curry scored to make it a 3-0 match.
Dickson secured her second goal of the contest in the 54th minute to pull Massachusetts ahead 4-0. Dickson chased down the ball and moved around defenders to the top of the box, before blasting a shot towards the back of the net.
Yale then scored at the 71:29 mark, converting on a penalty kick to make it a 4-1 game. At the 84:57 mark, Terry took a shot from inside the box that found its way around the goalkeeper and into the top left corner of the goal to extend UMass' lead to 5-1.
Massachusetts had the slight edge in shots over Yale, 13-12, as the shots on frame were even at seven apiece. The Bulldogs had seven corner kicks, while the Minutewomen had two.
Curry led the team in shots with four, followed by Dickson and Sophie Skabeikis with two each. Libby Fisher, McCaffrey, Aline Traber, Amanda Schultz and Terry all had one shot apiece. Dickson placed both of her shots on net, while Fisher, Curry, McCaffrey, Traber and Terry totaled one on frame.
Junior goalkeeper Leah Nisenfeld allowed no goals and stopped four shots through 62 minutes of action. Fellow classmate Julia Rosenberg made two saves and allowed one goal through 28 minutes of play.
Yale's goalkeeper, Isabel Willems, allowed five goals and had two saves between the posts for the full 90 minutes.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team ended the non-conference portion of the schedule on a successful note, posting a 2-0 win over the University of Detroit Mercy on Thursday night (Sept. 10) at Cochrane Stadium.
Senior Ella Kane scored what proved to be the winning goal in the 21st minute for the Falcons (4-1-1), while freshman Mia Ugarte doubled the lead with her first collegiate goal just 30 seconds before halftime.
The Falcons controlled play throughout the evening. BGSU outshot the Titans, 25-6, and also led in shots on goal (10-1) and corner kicks (9-3).
Junior Payton O'Malley made one save en route to the shutout win on Thursday night. For the Titans (2-4-1), Eva Hill made five saves in the first half, while Isabelle Renner had three saves while working a scoreless second half.
Kane's goal came after a short right-side cross from fellow senior Isabella Mazzaferro. The ball found Kane at the far post, and she tapped it home for her first goal of the season.
Then, late in the first half, the ball was knocked out of the 18-yard box after a BGSU corner kick, but junior Haley Wolf played a perfectly-weighted ball back into the mixer, and Ugarte was there to head it past Hill to double the BG lead.
Akron 4, Mercyhurst 0

ERIE, Pa. — The Akron women's soccer team pitched a shutout on the road against Mercyhurst, 4-0, in their final non-conference match.
Three scores came in the first half for the Zips — with the first coming just 1:33 into the match from Tewabech Seerup on a pass from Emma Ogdahl.
Thirty-three seconds later, Akron struck again — this time on a Rachel Wenzel kick that she buried in the lower left corner for the 2-0 lead.
The Zips got their third in the 20th minute courtesy of a Hattie Yugovich pass to Holly Skipper and their final score in the 64th minute from Yugovich.
Akron dominated the stat sheet, as they outshot the Lakers, 25-4. Sara Bower and Freya Blatz each played a half in net, while Blatz notched two saves.
