MUNCIE, Ind. – Day Two of the 2026 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships delivered another exciting evening of competition at Briner Sports Complex, as conference titles continued to be decided and team races tightened heading into Saturday’s final day.
Akron surged to the top of both team standings after a dominant Friday performance. The Zips lead the women’s standings with 73.5 points, followed by Miami (41) and Kent State (39.5). UMass and Western Michigan are tied for fourth with 31 points each.
On the men’s side, Akron widened its lead with 112 points, while Miami climbed into second with 70 points. Kent State sits third with 56 points, followed by Eastern Michigan (46) and UMass (43).
In the field events, Akron continued to flex its strength in the throws. Lane Graham captured the men’s hammer throw title with a winning mark of 67.12m, while teammate Owen Wendl defended his dominance in the men’s shot put with a throw of 18.22m. On the women’s side, Brook Boes added another championship performance for the Zips, winning the shot put with a mark of 15.18m.
Kent State’s Amare Hall once again soared to the top of the podium in the men’s long jump, claiming the MAC title with a leap of 7.58m. In the women’s long jump, UMass’ Shakira Cadet earned the conference crown after posting a winning mark of 6.17m.
Distance events highlighted the evening on the track. Miami’s Petros Sanchez claimed the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase title in 8:45.20, while Western Michigan’s Ava Kurczewski captured gold in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:08.12.
With one day remaining in Muncie, team championships and individual titles remain up for grabs as the 2026 MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships conclude Saturday at Briner Sports Complex.
