NIU Holds Strong at Toledo | Box Score
TOLEDO, Oh. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team defeated Toledo, 6-1, on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies completed the season sweep of the Rockets and clinched a Mid-American Conference tournament berth with the win.
"We performed like champions today, from start to finish. Captains Arrastia, Scotuzzi, and Dellien led the way with their leadership, energy, and strong play," said head coach René Vidal. "We look forward to finishing the MAC regular season strong as we prepare for a different kind of pressure in the MAC tournament."
NIU will compete in the MAC Tournament for the second time in the last three seasons, both under Vidal.
Against Toledo, the Huskies clinched the doubles point following a 7-6 (7-2) win from

Federico Scotuzzi took a 6-2 win for their fourth straight doubles win.
Chiao Bo Suo Nan defeated Charlie Snow 6-4, 6-2 in singles. Soon after, No. 65 Gaztambide Arrastia (Pamplona, Spain / Jesuitas) claimed a 6-3, 7-5 win, his 10th win on his last 11 matches.
Puntaric sealed the match for NIU with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) victory over Hanamichi Carvajal at No. 1. The final two wins for NIU came from Leti Messina (Rome, Italy / North Florida) and Scotuzzi.
The regular season wraps up for NIU next weekend, hosting Western Michigan on Thursday, April 9, and Ball State on Saturday, April 11. The Huskies' Senior Day will be against Ball State on April 11.
Buffalo Sweeps UIC on Senior Day | Box Score
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team (13-6, 7-2 MAC) celebrated their senior class in style with a 7-0 sweep of UIC at the UB Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Bulls improve to 7-2 in league play and sit in first place in the Mid-American Conference standings with one match remaining in the regular season.
Buffalo got off to a great start as
Theodoros Mitsakos and
Clement Mainguy won 6-2 at first doubles and
Faiz Nasyam and
Minjae Kim followed with a 6-2 victory of their own a couple minutes later at the third position to clinch the doubles point for UB.
Nasyam continued his momentum in singles action as he cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at six singles. Junior
Onder Balci picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at second singles and Mitsakos followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win of his own at the first position to clinch the match for UB. Kim added to the lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win at fourth singles,
Emiliano Jorquera followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win at the sixth position and Mainguy rounded out the scoring for UB with a 6-1, 3-6, 10-6 victory at third singles.
"This was a great way to celebrate our seniors today," said head coach
Lee Nickell. "I am very proud of the team, the heart they show and the way they play for each other. Our four seniors have changed this program and will forever be legends at UB. We have a long way to go, we are going to practice hard and be ready for Toledo next week.
