Huskies Roll Past UIC for Season Sweep

Northern Illinois Rolls Past UIC, Downs Judson | Box Score Match 1 | Box Score Match 2
DeKALB, Ill. –
 The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team cruised past both UIC and Judson at home on Saturday, defeating UIC 7-0 and Judson 4-0. NIU is now 11-2 at home this season, the most home wins in a single season since the 2021 dual season (13) and third most since 2013-14.

With the win over UIC, the Huskies swept their series against the Flames this season and moved to 5-1 atop the Mid-American Conference standings.

UIC
A 7-5 clinch from Iker Gaztambide Arrastia / Nikola Puntaric at No. 1 doubles gave NIU the early advantage. Lorenzo Leti Messina / Federico Scotuzzi took a 6-2 win at No. 3 opened the door for the Huskies to earn the point. In singles, the Huskies swept on all six courts without dropping a set.

Judson
The Huskies jumped on the Eagles quick in doubles, securing the point within 20 minutes with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Pratyaksh LNU / James Theriault took a 6-2 win, Theriault's first doubles win of the year. Puntaric locked in a 6-2, 6-0 win over Francisco Sanchez at No. 2 and was followed by a 7-6, 6-2 win from Chiao Bo Suo Nan, his first appearance at No. 3 all season. Pratyaksh LNU clinched the match 6-1, 6-1 over Joshua Bavich.

Both Puntaric and Suo Nan went 2-0 in singles play on the day.

The Huskies will travel to Buffalo and Toledo next weekend. 


Western Michigan Downs Toledo for Fourth-Straight Win | Box Score 
KALAMAZOO, Mich. --
 The Western Michigan men's tennis team picked up its fourth-straight win and improved to 5-2 in Mid-American Conference play after a 4-3 win over Toledo on Saturday at West Hills Athletic Club. 

The Broncos quickly picked up the doubles point after wins at No. 3 by Tim Riedel and Drew Evans and No. 1 by Oscar Corwin and Alex Antonopoulos. Riedel and Evans gave WMU the early advantage with a 6-1 win over Alejandro Gonzalez and Joshua Mackey. Corwin and Antonopoulos then clinched the point with a 6-3 win over Cole Cozens and Charlie Snow. 

The Rockets took the first point in singles to tie it up at 1-1 after Poonthong Komolpisut defeated Antonopoulos at No. 2, 6-2, 6-0. Western Michigan retook the lead when Riedel picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Matias Olivero. UT responded with Cozens defeating Jack Davison 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 to tie it back up at 2-2. Chen-Hui Ho gave the lead back to the Broncos with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 over Snow, but Lucas Britez snapped Corwin's six-match winning streak, beating him 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4. 

All squared at 3-3, the match-deciding point came down to the No. 1 match between Western Michigan's Ashton Adesoro and Toledo's Hanamichi Carvajal. Adesoro won the first set via a tie-breaker, 7-6 (7-1). Carvajal picked up the second set with a 6-1 win, but Adesoro bested him by the same score in the third set to hand the match victory to the Broncos. 

Western Michigan is back in action on Thursday, hosting Ball State at 1 p.m. 


Buffalo Bounces Back with 4-3 Win at Ball State | Box Score 
MUNCIE, IN – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team (11-6, 5-2) bounced back with a 4-3 win at Ball State on Saturday afternoon.

Buffalo got off to a strong start as Theodoros Mitsakos and Clement Mainguy cruised to a 6-1 win at first singles and Onder Balci and Michael Malkin followed with a 6-2 victory at the second position to clinch the doubles point.

In singles action, Mainguy won 6-2, 6-4 at the third position to put UB up 2-1. After the hosts answered with wins at first and second to regain the lead, Faiz Nasyam battled to a 7-5, 6-3 win at six singles and Emiliano Jorquera clinched the match for UB one minute later with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at fifth singles.

Up next, Buffalo will return home for a pair of matches, beginning on Thursday, April 2 when they host Northern Illinois at 1pm.
