SIUE Caps Off Big Weekend with a Pair of Wins
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE wrestling jumped out to its best start of the Division I era Sunday with a pair of decisive dual meet victories at First Community Arena.
The Cougars, 3-0, bested Aurora 51-4 and Maryville 29-6.

The Cougars overpowered Aurora with five first-period falls and six overall along with three technical falls.
SIUE's weekend also included a stellar performance Saturday at the UCM Kaufman Brand Bayly Open in Warrensburg, Mo.

Buffalo Competes at Black Knight Invitational | Results
WEST POINT, NY – A sixth-place finish by
Rafael Knapp highlighted the University at Buffalo wrestling team's day at the Black Knight Invite hosted by Army on Sunday.
Knapp went 4-2 in the 174-pound bracket. After dropping a close 5-3 decision to 2-seed Nick Fine of Columbia, Knapp rattled off three straight wins on the backside, before falling in the fifth-place match.
Twelve Bulls competed on the day, with nine wrestlers posting at least one win.
Aaron Lanster went 2-2 at 141 and
Kelin Laffey went 2-2 at 165.
The Bulls are back in action on Dec. 5 when they open Mid-American Conference action at Bloomsburg.
Edinboro Places Six on the Podium at Keystone Classic
Philadelphia – The Edinboro men's wrestling team placed seven wrestlers on the podium at the Keystone Classic hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.
Jared McGill was the top finisher for the Scots at 184 pounds. He opened the tournament with a 15-7 major decision over Wyatt Ferguson of Central Michigan. In the quarterfinals, McGill scored a 19-4 tech fall over Ryan Boucher of Michigan State. The Fighting Scot gutted out a 2-0 decision over Shane Cartagna-Walsh to advance to the final. McGill dropped a 10-3 decision to Franklin & Marshall's James Conway placing second.
A trio of Fighting Scots earned third at the Classic:
Chris Vargo,
Jacob Brenneman and
Tate Geiser.
Vargo began his run with a 13-0 major decision over Jackson Parker of Franklin & Marshall. Leading 9-1 in the third period, Vargo turned Curtis Nelson of Lock Haven scoring a fall in 5:52. In the semifinals, Vargo dropped a 14-8 decision to Davis Motyka of Penn. Vargo bounced back in the third-place match defeating Franklin & Marshall's James Garcia 6-3 to secure third.
Brenneman scored a 5-4 win over Jordan Soriano of Drexel in his opener. In the quarters, Brenneman posted a 9-4 decision over Harvard's Dante Frinzi. In the semis, Brenneman fell 19-3 to Wyatt Henson of Lock Haven. In the third-place match, Brenneman defeated Nick Blackburn of Central Michigan.
Geiser opened his day with a 20-5 tech fall over Benjamin Smith of Harvard. Geiser defeated Lance Urbas of Penn 4-2 in the quarters. Rutger's Lenny Pinto scored a 20-3 teach over Geiser sending the Scot to the third-place match. In that match, Geiser scored a takedown in sudden victory to score the 4-1 decision.
Ryan Burgos placed fifth at 165. In the opening round match, Burgos scored a 17-2 tech fall over Jesse Scott of Franklin & Marshall. He dropped a 3-0 decision to Rutger's Andrew Barbosa dropping to the consolation bracket. In his first consolation match he notched fall over Michigan State's DJ Shannon. Burgos then teched Jake Slotnick of Hofstra 18-1. In the fifth-place match, Burgos notched a 13-5 major decision of Virginia Tech's Mac Church.
At 197,
Nick Lodato earned seventh place. He opened his day with a 4-2 victory over Hofstra's Will Conlon. In the quarters, Luke Cochran scored a 14-2 major decision over Lodato. In his first consolation match, Lodato notched a 6-0 decision over Penn's Jackson Zimmerman. In the consolation semis, Martin Cosgrove of Penn notched a 16-1 tech to send Lodato to the seventh-place match. Lodato finished the day with a 10-1 major over Franklin & Marshall's RJ Moore.
The Scots are next in action on December 6 at the Las Vegas Invitational.
Lock Haven at Keystone Classic | Results
PHILADELPHIA – The Lock Haven men's wrestling team competed in the PRTC Keystone Classic on Sunday (Nov. 23) at the University of Pennsylvania's Palestra. Lock Haven finished third out 11 schools with 103.5 points, including one second, two thirds, two fifths and three eighth-place finishers.

Wyatt Henson (141) brought home silver at 141 pounds with a 3-1 record including a pair of tech falls.
No. 32
Tucker Hogan placed third at 197 pounds after going 3-1 with a tech fall.
No. 26
Gable Strickland also finished third at 133 Ibs. and finished with a 2-1 record including a major decision.
No. 28
Lucas Kapusta and No. 32
Avery Bassett placed fifth at 149 and 174, respectively.
Kapusta racked up four wins on the day and secured a fall (00:53) and a major decision.
Bassett also won four matches and notched a major decision.

Central Michigan's Schrader Places 3rd at Keystone Classic; 8 Chippewas Place | Results
PHILADELPHIA –Mason Shrader placed third at 157 pounds to lead the Central Michigan wrestling team on Sunday at the Keystone Classic, hosted by Penn, at The Palestra.
Shrader, a redshirt senior, was the top finisher among the 14 Chippewas who participated in the 11-team tournament. Eight Chippewas placed in their respective weight classes.
CMU finished seventh in the team standings with 86.5 points. Rutgers (159) was first followed by host Penn (140) and Lock Haven (103.5).

Shrader went 4-1 on the day, closing with an 8-5 victory over Anthony White of Rutgers in the third-place match. Shrader opened with an 8-1 win over Wyatt Sout of Penn and then posted a 19-4 technical fall victory over Michigan State's Braden Stauffenberg. He then topped Lock Haven's Nick Stampoulos, 4-3, to reach the semifinals, where he dropped a 7-4 decision to Jude Swisher of Penn.
Blackburn, a sophomore, dropped a 7-5 decision to Edinboro's Jacob Brennamen in the third-place match at 141, while Cochran, a redshirt sophomore, dropped a 5-3 decision to Tucker Hogan of Lock Haven in the third-place match at 197.
Cramer, a redshirt senior, topped Matthew Walsh of Harvard, 4-3, in the fifth-place match at 184; Austin downed Billy Townson of Rutgers on a 2-0 decision in the fifth-place match at 133; and Caves posted a 2-0 win over Josh Terrill of Michigan State in the fifth-place match at 285.
Nugent fell in the fifth-place match at 149 to Lock Haven's Lucas Kapusta, 11-2; and Fockler finished seventh when Lock Haven's Kade Sottolano forfeited the seventh-place match at 285.

Six Golden Eagles Win Titles at Cornell Big Red Invitational
ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Golden Eagles wrestling team traveled to Cornell for the Big Red Invitational. The Golden Eagles finished with six winners and five runners.
Alejandro Herrera-Rondon was the "Group C" 165-pound champion, not surrendering a point in the entire tournament. Herrera-Rondon dominated his competition by winning all four matches by technical fall, including two in the first period. Herrera-Rondon outscored his opponents 64-0 across his four matches on Sunday, securing 6 takedowns and 44 near-fall points in those matches. His victories came against Nico Romero of Brown (16-0 5:16), Timur Beksultan of Binghamton (15-0 1:14), Calvin Pineda of Sacred Heart (15-0, 2:06), and Nick Franzen of Sacred Heart (18-0 4:02).
Joey Fischer was the "Group C" 133-pound champion, winning all his matches by bonus point victory. Fischer began his day with an impressive performance against Sacred Heart's Will Schmitt, securing 3 takedowns on route to a 2nd period tech-fall victory. Fischer would follow that up with a pinfall victory over John Shechy of Sacred Heart in the 2nd period with a standing cement mixer. Fischer's third match started scoreless after the first period, but after a quick escape, he would take his opponent down and earn four near-fall points to take an 8-0 lead. Fischer would ride out Jacob Hanlon of Binghamton for the rest of the match to earn a 9-0 major decision. In his final match, Fischer earned a first-period pinfall victory over Anthony Samuels of Sacred Heart.
Matthew Smith was the "Group D" 149-pound champion, winning all his matches by bonus point victory. Smith opened his day with a high offensive output, securing four takedowns in a 3rd period 17-1 tech-fall victory over Luca Stefanelli of Cornell. Smith followed that up with another 17-1 3rd period tech-fall victory this time over Hank Powell of Sacred Heart. He continued to show his impressive offensive capabilities on his feet with another takedown performance. In Smith's last match of the day, the first period would end scoreless. Smith earned a quick escape in the 2nd period to take a 1-0 lead and followed that up with a single leg takedown to increase his lead to 4-0. Smith would add four more points via a near-fall to take home an 8-0 major decision victory over Kai Tengco of Brown.
Wesley Barnes was the "Group E" 157-pound champion, winning all three of his matches by bonus point victory. Barnes started his day on fire with 5 takedowns in a 17-2 3rd period tech-fall victory over Nolan Hook of Sacred Heart. Barnes then made quick work of Binghamton's Gavin Nolan with a first-period pinfall victory. In Barnes' final match of the day, he continued his momentum from the previous two matches with two first-period takedowns. He would secure another takedown in the 2nd period, followed by an escape and a riding time point in the 3rd period to secure an 11-3 major decision victory over Cael Raines of Bloomsburg.
Travis Clawson was the "Group A" 125-pound champion. Clawson dropped his first match in a close 10-7 decision against Marcello Milani of Cornell. He quickly bounced back with a pinfall victory over Weston Pisarchick of Clarion. Clawson's final match of the day was against Ben Monn from George Mason. The match started scoreless in the first two periods after Clawson would ride out Monn in the 2nd period. Clawson would start in the bottom position and earn a quick escape to take a 1-0 lead. Then he surrendered a takedown with 1:05 remaining to go down 3-1. He then earned an escape, and a riding time point to tie the match 3-3 at the end of regulation. In sudden victory after a 30-plus second scramble, Clawson ended up on top with the match-sealing takedown to win 6-3.
Colton Wade was the "Group B" 133-pound champion. Wade started his day off with an impressive performance against Anthony Clem of Sacred Heart, securing 3 takedowns in an 11-0 major decision victory. Wade would then win his second match by a 4-2 decision over Clarion's Aiden Beimel where a first period takedown ended up being the difference maker. Wade continued his impressive display in his final match against Sacred Heart's Michael Baker, snagging a takedown 16 seconds into the match, followed by 12 near-fall points to secure a 15-0 first period tech-fall victory.
A few other standout performances for the Golden Eagles today:
- Coy Bryson finished runner-up in the 165-pound "Group B" bracket finishing 3-1 on the day, including two first-period pinfall victories.
- Cody Hamilton finished runner-up in the 157-pound "Group C" bracket finishing 3-1 on the day, with a 1st period pinfall victory and a sudden victory win in his final match.
- Patrick Cutchember finished runner-up in the 174-pound "Group C" bracket finishing 2-1 on the day that included a 4-1 decision victory and a first-period pinfall victory over Luke Longo of Sacred Heart.
- Scott Johnson finished runner-up in the 141-pound "Group C" bracket finishing 3-1 with 3 bonus point victories. A 2nd period tech-fall over Jake Ice of Sacred Heart, a 14-2 major decision over Richie Woods of Bloomsburg, and a 2nd period tech-fall over Josias Daniels.
- Easton Mull finished runner-up in the 125-pound "Group D" bracket finishing 3-1 on the day, including two tech-fall victories over Trey Smith of Binghamton and Corey Iannucci of Sacred Heart.
George Mason Has a Strong Performance at the Cornell Big Red Invitational
Fairfax -- George Mason turned in a busy and competitive day at the Big Red Open in Ithaca, highlighted by strong performances and impressive individual wins from several veterans in the upper weights.
The Patriots entered four wrestlers in the 125 bracket, with three earning 2-1 records in the round robin format. Ben Monn opened with a dominant 11-2 major decision over Clarion's W. Pisarchick and edged Cornell's M. Milani in a tight 4-3 bout. Teammate M. Stratton also posted a 2–1 record, rolling to a 21-5 technical fall and a 13–3 major.
JB Dragovich delivered another solid showing for Mason at the lightest weight class, earning a pair of major decisions—including a 23–10 offensive outburst against Binghamton's T. Smith.
In the upper weights,
Logan Messer once again demonstrated why he is one of Mason's most reliable performers. The 174-pound standout went 2-1, rebounding from a close 6-3 loss to Binghamton's Carter Baer with two decisive victories—a 7-2 win over Brown's D. Clearie and a 15–0 tech fall over Sacred Heart's J. Rowland.
At 184,
Malachi DuVall produced one of the best overall outings of the day for the Patriots, finishing 3-1. After a narrow opening loss to Cornell's C. Hansen, DuVall rattled off three straight wins, including a pair of major decisions and a shutout 3–0 victory over Sacred Heart's A. Khalil.

Ohio Places Five Wrestlers at Mountaineer Open
BOONE, N.C. – The Ohio Wrestling team (1-1) took part in the Mountaineer Invitational hosted by Appalachian State on Sunday. Five Bobcat wrestlers placed in their individual brackets.
Leading the way for the Bobcats was redshirt sophomore
Derek Raike, who took home the title in the 157 lb. bracket. Raike began his day by defeating UT-Chattanooga's Alex Hutchcraft (UT-Chattanooga) by first period forfeit. Raike moved through the quarterfinals with a 9-3 decision victory over NC State's Latrell Shaffer, recording two takedowns in the match. Raike took home another victory by decision in the semifinals, recording three takedowns on his way to a 11-5 defeat of Appalachian State's Kai O'Dell. Raike dominated the championship match, recording five takedowns to defeat Appalachian State's Jeremiah Price by major decision, 17-6.
Freshman
Brayden Teunissen and redshirt junior
Jack Lledo took home third place in the 125 lb. and 165 lb. brackets, respectively.
Teunissen began his day in dominant fashion, defeating Presbyterian's Ethan York by technical fall, 19-3 4:09 in to the match. Teunissen then won his quarterfinal match by decision 7-4 over UT-Chattanooga's Easton Cooper, recording a crucial takedown in the third period to secure the victory. After a 9-2 decision loss in the semi-finals, Teunissen rebounded with a victory in the consolation semifinals, holding a 4-2 lead over Presbyterian's Dallas Canoyer before he was forced to forfeit 6:26 into the match. Teunissen faced UT-Chattanooga's Cooper again in the third place match, again recording a crucial third period takedown to seal a victory by decision, 4-1.
Lledo began his day with an 8-0 major decision victory over UNC's Luke Sipes, before a defeat in the quarter-finals moved him to the consolation bracket. Lledo caught fire from there, winning four straight matches to claim third place in the bracket. Lledo defeated Appalachian State's Noah Gonzales by major decision, 13-5, in his second consolation match before defeating another Mountaineer, Caleb Cady, by 8-4 decision in the consolation semifinals. Lledo recorded a takedown 1:31 into the third place match against NC State's Jason Kwaak before Kwaak was forced to retire, securing a third place finish for Lledo.

Evan Wingrove, who took fourth place in the 149 lb. and 197 lb. brackets, respectively.
