Fifty-Eight MAC Wrestlers Named NWCA NCAA D1 Individual Scholar All-American

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) has announced the NCAA Division I Men's Scholar All-American Awards, recognizing outstanding academic achievement in the classroom by individual student-athletes across the nation while competing throughout the 2025-26 season. The Mid-American Conference saw 56 wrestlers from the league's 12 teams earn academic recognition. 

Bloomsburg - The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) has announced the NCAA Division I Men's Scholar All-American Awards, recognizing outstanding academic achievement by individual student-athletes across the nation. Graduate student Jace Schafer earned the honor for the second time in his career and senior William Morrow earned the distinction for the third-straight season. Morrow is a three-time NWCA Scholar All-American and a two-time Academic All-MAC and CSC Academic All-District honoree. Schafer is a two-time NWCA Scholar All-American after earning the honors at West Virginia last season. Schafer went 23-8 this season and qualified for the NCAA Championships after finishing third at the MAC Championships. 


Buffalo - Seven members of the University at Buffalo wrestling team were named Scholar All-Americans by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), it was announced. It was the most in program history, surpassing the previous record of four. Redshirt-Freshman Zachary Belverio, redshirt-senior Kaleb Burgess, redshirt-sophomore Connor Jacobs, redshirt-sophomore Rafael Knapp, redshirt-junior Kelin Laffey, graduate Marcus Petite and freshman Tyler Roark were all honored.


Central Michigan - Five Central Michigan wrestlers have been named a Scholar All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. The five are senior Chandler Amaker, freshman Archer Anderson, and sophomores Nick BlackburnLuke Cochran and Cole Hopkins. Cochran is a repeat honoree.


Clarion - This week saw both the Mid-American Conference and National Wrestling Coaches Association release their annual academic honors, with Clarion wrestlers represented on both the Academic All-MAC and NWCA Scholar All-American lists in 2025-26. Two athletes - Ethan Wiant and John Meyers - were represented on both lists.

George Mason -The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) has announced its NCAA Division I Men's Scholar All-American individual and team awards, recognizing outstanding academic achievement and programs that demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence both on the mat and in the classroom. A record number of teams posted a GPA above 3.0 this season, with George Mason finishing 18th overall. The Patriots have now earned a Top 30 team ranking for the seventh consecutive year. George Mason placed six student-athletes on the Scholar All-America list, including four repeat honorees. Graduate student Logan Messer earned the distinction for the fourth time in his career, while Kaden Cassidy and Malachi DuVall each collected their third consecutive honors. Drew Dickson was recognized for the second time, and the freshmen Tate Hisey and Anthony Lucchiani earned the accolade in their first collegiate seasons.


Kent State - The National Wrestling Coaches Association announced their student-athletes that were named to the 2026 Men's Wrestling NWCA Scholar All-American list. The 2026 NWCA Scholar All-American Wrestling Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the mat as well as in the classroom.

Lock Haven - Lock Haven men's wrestling standouts Avery Bassett and Gable Strickland have both earned 2025-26 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) NCAA Division I Men's Scholar All-American awards. The prestigious distinction recognizes the academic success by individual student-athletes who also excelled on the mats. Both Bassett and Strickland were recently named to the 2025-26 Mid-American Conference (MAC) All-Academic Wrestling Team. The two standouts also represented Lock Haven on the collegiate wrestling's biggest stage as the two competed at the 2026 NCAA Division I Men's Wrestling Championship in mid-March in Cleveland.

 
Northern Illinois - Seven members of the Northern Illinois University wrestling program have earned academic recognition from the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) as announced on April 1. Collin ArchTommy BennettDevon DawsonSpencer MooberryBrett SmithBlake West, and Colin Young all earned Scholar All-American honors based on their work in the classroom and on the mat. West and Bennett earn the honor for the third time while Arch collects his second honor.


Ohio - The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) has announced the NCAA Division I Men's Scholar All-American Awards, recognizing outstanding academic achievement by individual student-athletes across the nation.

Rider - The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced its NCAA Division I Men's Scholar All-America Awards, with Tyler KlinskyWill Betancourt, and Elijah Griffin representing Rider among the nation's top academic performers. Klinsky closed out his six-year career as an NCAA All-American, placing eighth at the national tournament while compiling a 30-6 record. A member of the MAC All-Academic Team, he adds NWCA Scholar All-America honors to his decorated résumé. Betancourt finished his season 23-10 overall, earning his first trip to the NCAA Championships. He was also named to the MAC All-Academic Team and now earns NWCA Scholar All-America distinction. Griffin wrapped up his final season with a 29-9 record, finishing one win shy of All-America status after a medical forfeit at the NCAA Championships. He concludes his career as an NWCA Scholar All-American.
