YPSILANTI, Mich. – (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University swim and dive programs begin its season 1-1 as the Eastern Classic was held as three separate dual meets between the three teams at Jones Natatorium Friday and Saturday, Oct. 10-11.
In the dual meet against Illinois State University, the Eagles won with a score of 244, compared to Illinois State's 126. In the dual meet against the University of Toledo, the Eagles were topped by the Rockets by one point, as the score was 184 to 185, respectively. Meanwhile, Toledo downed Illinois State, 246 to 142.
Eastern won seven total events between swimming and diving, along with sweeping two of the events.
How it Happened: Swim
The 400-yard individual medley saw Eastern fill all three podium spots, with freshman
Shayne Patrick, earning her first win as an Eagle with a time of 4:30.12. She was followed by sophomore
Nehir Oz, who took second place in 4:30.82, and junior
Morgan Hofmeister, who swam a time of 4:38.62 to take third place.
Junior
Nina Larosa, took first place in the 100y breaststroke in 1:03.33. She was followed by junior
Lucy Noble, who took third place in 1:05.75, and junior
Tristen Mina, who swam a time of 1:05.92.
Both of Eastern's 800-yard freestyle relay teams claimed the top spots, as Oz, sophomore
Azra Umut, freshman
Marianna Fardella, and junior
Emma Littrell, took first place in 7:36.64. The team of Hofmeister, Patrick, freshman
Amelia Jones, and senior
Ali Kudo, came in second with a time of 7:44.05.
Oz secured a first place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle with a personal best time of 17:02.37. She was followed by Fardella, who took second place with a time of 17:16.25, and Hofmeister, who swam it in 17:32.39 to round out the scoring.
LaRosa earned her second win with a time of 2:20.91 in the 200-yard breaststroke, followed by Mina with a time of 2:23.65, and Hofmeister with a time of 2:29.33.
How it Happened: Dive
The Eagles kicked off day one of the meet with a sweep in the one-meter, as sophomore
Aisling Gutierrez, took first place with a score of 257.60. Next was senior
Cate Migliori, in second place with a personal-best score of 231.75, followed by sophomore
Taityn Speier, in third place with 217.20 to round out the point scorers.
On day two, junior
Marnie Howard, took first place in the three-meter with a score of 235.05, her first win as an Eagle. She was followed by Migliori, who earned second place with a score of 226.40, and Gutierrez, who rounded out the scoring with 205.50.
Personal Bests
The Eagles saw a total of six personal bests set this weekend between swimming and diving.

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Toledo women's swimming and diving program began the 2025-26 season by picking up a pair of dual wins over Illinois State, 226-142, and Mid-American Conference opponent Eastern Michigan, 185-184, at the Eastern Classic in Ypsilanti, Mich.
This marks the first time that Toledo has started a season 2-0 since the 2018-19 season when the Rockets earned wins over Findlay and UIndy. The victory over Eastern Michigan is the first since Nov. 16, 2013 when the Rockets earned a 170-130 decision over the Eagles.
The Rocket tallied 14 podium finishes on the final day of the two-day meet, including six first-place finishes. The 400 free relay team of
Rosie Richards,
Helena Pinto Coelho Lopes,
Kenzie Robinson and
Janne Slegers placed first with a time of 3:25.11. The relay squad of
Claire Kemmere,
Kenzie Myco,
Audrey Zimmerman and
Tiana Temelkova took fourth overall, but placed ahead of Eastern Michigan with a final mark of 3:31.65 to help secure the win over the Eagles.
Junior
Leah Evans won the 100 and 200 backstroke and tallied the seventh-best time in program history in the 200 back with a mark of 2:00.04. Freshman
Maggie Spybrooke won her first individual event as a Rocket, recording a final time of 2:04.55 in the 200 butterfly.
The Rockets 200 free relay team of
Janne Slegers, Lopes, Robinson and Evans placed first with a time of 1:34.06. The 200 medley relay squad of Evans,
Grace Henely, Robinson and Lopes took second with a final mark of 1:43.56.

Akron Wins Zips Classic - Sets Two Meet Records in Two Days | Results
AKRON, Ohio - The Akron swimming and diving program capped off its season-opening Zips Classic with a commanding victory while setting two meet records on the second day.
The Zips took first with 1,298 points while Xavier finished second with 777 points and Cleveland State taking third with 651 points.
The Zips started the second day of competition by taking the top two times in the 200-yard Free Relay. The Zips "Z" team of Felicia Klintemar (23.62), Hannah Trainer (23.15), Callie Parkes (22.70) and Ada Szwabinska (22.13) took first with a time of 1:31.60. Akron's "I" team of Abbey Cronin (24.21), Brienne Trumpower (22.95), Cora Spetz (23.43) and Martyna Piesko (23.16) took second with a time of 1:33.75.
Maggie Patterson took silver in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:28.18 while Klintemar clocked the top time of 53.06 in the 100-yard Butterfly. Piesko (55.27) and Trainer (55.30 took second and third, respectively in the Butterfly as well.
The Zips took gold in the 200-yard Free as Helena Lalkovic clocked a time of 1:49.82.
Claire Cox set a meet record in the 100-yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:01.29 to take gold. Piesko would take the top time in the 100-yard Backstroke with a time of 1:01.29.
Elizabeth Noble led the Blue and Gold in the 3-meter diving event with the top score of 274.70.
Akron would once again set a meet record, this time in the 200-yard MR. The "Z" team of Piesko (25.36), Cox (27.36), Klintemar (22.10) and Szwabinska (22.10) finished with a time of 1:38.77. The previous meet record was set by the Zips (1:38.78) in 2021.
Elle Couture finished second in the 1650 free with a time of 16:49.73.
Akron took the top three times in the 200-yard backstroke, as Piesko (1:56.64), Avery Knight (1:59.04) and Abbey Cronin (2:00.54) helped the Blue and Gold sweep the event.
The 200-yard Breaststroke saw the Zips take two of the top three times, as Madelyn Bosler finished second (2:16.91) and Cox took third (2:18.14).
Ava Withey paced the Zips in the 200-yard Butterfly with a time of 2:03.47 to take third.
Akron concluded the Zips Classic with the top two times in the 400-yard Free Relay. The "Z" team of Klintemar (50.19), Trainer (51.28), Lalkovic (49.61), and Szwabinska (49.39) finished first with a time of 3:20.47. The "I" team of Piesko (50.25), Trumpower (51.31), Parkes (50.13), and Spetz (50.59) took second with a time of 3:22.28.
On the men's side, Cleveland State's 200-yard Free Relay team of Joe Parkhurst, Jacopo Lanzo, Justin Schneider and Daniel Lyngaas set a meet record with a time of 1:21.42. The previous top time was set by Miami (OH) in 2019 (1:21.58).
Tyler Schultze of Cleveland State set a meet record in the 100-yard Breaststroke with a time of 54.59, breaking the previous record of 54.62 set by Ethan Saunders in 2024.
Quinn Cynor of Youngstown State set a meet record in the 100-yard Backstroke with a time of 48.46. The previous meet record was set by James Wray (49.25) in 2018.
Youngstown State's "A" team set a meet record in the 200 MR, as the team of Quinn Cynor, James Slessor, Jacob Gramer and Noah Smith finished with a time of 1:28.59. The previous record was set by Xavier (1:30.06) in 2024.
Daniel Lyngaas of Cleveland State set a meet record in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 44.89. He bested the previous meet record of 44.94 set by Gavin Redden in 2023.
Aiden Florio set a meet record in the 200-yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:59.46. He broke the previous record of 2:00.36 by James Slessor of Youngstown State in 2024.
Youngstown State's "A" team of Quinn Cynor, Jacob Gramer, Lorenzo Beck and Noah Smith set a meet record in the 400-yard Free Relay with a time of 2:58.60. The previous record was set by Youngstown State (3:00.56) in 2024.

The Zips hit the road for a head-to-head showdown with Eastern Michigan on October 31 for a 4 p.m. start.

Ball State Takes First at Indiana Intercollegiate
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Eight event wins and 22 individual podium finishes, including 24 total top five finishes led the women's swimming and diving program to a first-place finish at the Don Ron Indiana Intercollegiates. Ball State totaled 584.5 points, followed by host Purdue (583) and IU Indy (252.5).
Sophomore
Anna Keen and senior
Payton Kelly led the afternoon with three event wins each. Keen topped the 100 individual medley (55.90) and 100 breaststroke (1:03.21), and Kelly took first in both the 50 (22.52) and 100 (49.18) freestyles.
The Cardinals completed a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 breaststroke, with
Maya McDonald following Keen's top placement with a second place finish (1:03.48), just barely ahead of
Addie Beasley who placed third (1:03.57).
Keen and Kelly opened and closed the meet with contributions to winning relay efforts. The two joined sophomore
Lauren Fecher and freshman
Addie Beasley in a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:41.26), earning the ninth-best time in program history. To close, the two combined with
Haley Sakbun and
Kiley Zoeller to place first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.70).
Freshman
Aubrey Simmons earned the first individual event win of her collegiate career, touching the wall with a time of 56.17, 0.36 seconds ahead of
Alexa Von Holtz who placed second (56.53). Simmons also earned a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke (56.17), shortly behind
Ava Butterfield who earned second (55.27).
Also showing a strong effort in her first collegiate meet was freshman
Reagan Graves, capturing the ninth-best time in program history in the 200 freestyle (1:50.95) and placing third. Graves also placed third in the 100 freestyle (51.83) and was the leadoff for the first place 500 freestyle relay team (4:01.62), joining Sakbun,
Natalie Marshall and
Ella Sears.
Ball State had three women earn a podium finish on the 1M board, as senior
Grace Walker finish fifth with 269.70 points, followed by
Leelah Fettig who place seventh (226.35). Fettig also earned a sixth-place finish on the 3M board (225.10).
Next up, the Cardinals travel to Toledo Oct. 25, with events beginning at noon.

EVANSTON, Ill. — The Miami University swimming and diving team hit the road to start the 2025-2026 season at Northwestern University on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025. The RedHawks women finished second of three teams, as they defeated SIU 174-120 and dropped to Northwestern 224-76. The men were second of three teams with a 200-99 victory over SIU and a 203-97 loss to Northwestern.
How it Happened:
- The RedHawks first meet of the 2025-2026 season kicked off with the women's 200-yard medley where the women's A team finished fourth. Ella Ziegert, Natalie Gilson, Gracie Gregory and Julie Waechter turned in a combined time of 1:42.35.
- Casey Stephens finished third in the women's 600-yard freestyle, earning a time of 6:00.62. Sarah Pophal finished fourth with a time of 6:00.65.
- After that came the women's 200-yard freestyle, where Chrisna Bezuidenhout finished fifth, recording a time of 1:52.06.
- The women's 100-yard backstroke was next, where Ziegert was fourth, putting up a time of 54.89.
- After that was the women's 100-yard breaststroke. Madison Watschke came in fifth earning a time of 1:03.31.
- Gregory finished third in the women's 200-yard butterfly, putting up a time of 2:04.10
- After that was the women's 50-yard freestyle where Gilson finished fourth, turning in a time of 23.41.
- Jenna Halliday finished sixth in the women's 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.14.
- Next was the women's 200-yard backstroke where Bezuidenhout finished first, posting a time of 1:56.49
- After that was the women's 200-yard breaststroke, where Watschke finished third with a time of 2:15.28.
- The women's 300-yard freestyle was next, where Gregory finished fourth, turning in a time of 2:55.17.
- Next was the women's 100-yard butterfly . Ziegert was third, posting a time of 55.40.
- The women's 200-yard IM was next where Watschke finished third, posting a time of 2:04.72.
- The women's 400-yard freestyle relay was next, where the women's A team finished third. Ziegert, Waechter, Halliday and Gilson turned in a combined time of 3:24.97.
- For diving events, Sydney Rice earned a first place finish in the women's 1M dive with a score of 253.60
- Mia Meinhardt earned a sixth place finish in the women's 3M dive with a score of 236.80.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks swimming and diving team will hit the road and head to Cincinnati to take on the University of Cincinnati, Oct. 17. Diving events start at 12:30 p.m. while swimming events begin later at 3 p.m.
UMass 2nd (887) at Justin Jennings Invitational
HAMILTON, N.Y. – The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team wrapped up its time at the Justin Jennings Invitational, hosted by Colgate, at Lineberry Natatorium on Saturday.
The Minutemen came out on top with a total of 1,119 points, followed by Colgate (773.5) in second in Le Moyne (694.5) in third.
The Minutewomen totaled 877 points in the two-day event to sit in second behind Colgate (1,054.5). The women's team sat ahead of Le Moyne (473) and Saint Francis (400.5) in third and fourth, respectively.

Junior
Beren Cakiroglu kicked off day two with a first-place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.34. Sophomore
Karinne Everly (54.24), sophomore
Courtney Tedesco (54.70) and junior
Diya Ackerman-Vallala (55.72) took fourth, sixth and eighth, respectively, in the event. Junior
Olga Stoura finished fourth in the 200 backstroke with a. time od 2:13.91.
In the 200 breaststroke, sophomore Maria Griashaeva grabbed the gold with a time of 2:23.92 with junior
Lindsay Burbage collecting the bronze with a time of 2:24.87. Freshman
Flora Klimesch sat in third in the 500 freestyle after swimming a time of 5:15.15, followed by senior
Lexi Alexen in sixth with a time of 5:22.36.
Sophomores
Courtney Tedesco (58.80) and
Hannah Schoenauer (58.81) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 100 butterfly. Burbage swam into eighth with a time of 1:01.37 in the event.
Grishaeva finished the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:10.94 to place fourth, while Everly recorded a time of 2:12.27 to place fifth.
In the relays, the 400 freestyle relay team of Cakiroglu, Burbage, Everly and Tedesco, grabbed the silver with a combined time of 3:34.53. The 400 freestyle relay team consisting of Klimesch, Stoura, Schoenauer and Ackerman-Vallala earned the bronze medal with a time of 3:40.89.

The Minutewomen swept the podium in the three-meter dive, as sophomore
Khrystyna Yaremyn (256.05) sat in first, sophomore
Danielle Guerin (237.55) finished second and fellow classmate
