INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University women's swim and dive team opened the 2025-26 campaign with a dominant showing at the IU Indy Invite, earning wins over all five opponents at the Indiana University Natatorium.
The Falcons topped host IU Indianapolis (211.5–87.5), Saint Louis (233–66), Xavier (202–91), Butler (239–54) and Bellarmine (248–45) to begin the season a perfect 5-0.
"It was a total team effort," Head Coach
Tanner Barton said. "Our ladies brought high energy to the pool deck and they had confidence in themselves and in one another. This is how we kick off the new season!"
Bowling Green set the tone early, winning the 400-yard medley relay behind the quartet of
Emily McNicol,
Grace Perlberg,
Karina Solera and
Samia Becdach (3:48.01). McNicol later added individual victories in the 50 and 100 backstroke (25.71, 55.50). In the 50 back, the Falcons went 1-2-3, with
Bella Treib (26.42) and
Bridget Kurtzweil (26.76) finishing shortly after McNicol.
Freshman Carol Toledo swept the distance events, taking first in both the 1,000 freestyle (10:33.12) and 500 freestyle (5:07.51). Fellow newcomer
Lauren Jablonski claimed the 100 breaststroke (1:05.94) in her collegiate debut, leading a Falcon sweep with Perlberg (1:06.20) and
Madison Bond (1:06.47).
Becdach won the 50 freestyle (23.80) and placed second in the 100 free (51.21). Barton praised her execution and composure in key events.
Bond also recorded personal bests in both breaststroke sprints, clocking 30.96 in the 50 and 1:06.47 in the 100.
Grace Bodrock (57.13) and Solera (57.39) claimed first and second in the 100 butterfly, with Solera later winning the 50 butterfly (25.58).
In diving,
Natalia Mayorga earned podium finishes on both boards, scoring 259.05 on the one-meter and 259.85 on the three-meter.
To cap off the day, McNicol, Grace Rieskamp,
Annie Berrow and Becdach won the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.88).
The Falcons return to Bowling Green on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. to face Miami (Ohio) in a dual meet at Cooper Pool.
UMass Swimming & Diving Falls to Boston College in Season Opener
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team fell to Boston College on Saturday at the Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool. The Minutewomen dropped their dual meet against the Eagles.
Both the Minutewomen and Minutemen combined for five gold medals on the day. Freshmen
Flora Klimesch and
Hudson Bawduniak earned first place finishes in their collegiate debut, while junior
Beren Cakiroglu, sophomore
Maria Grishaeva and senior
Sammy Quigg picked up the gold on the day in their respective events.
Women's Swimming & Diving
The Minutewomen totaled 13 top-three finishes on the day to go along, while collecting three gold medals.
Klimesch began the individual events with a first-place finish in the 1,000 freestyle in her collegiate debut, recording a time of 10:28.91. Cakiroglu earned the silver in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.24.
In the 100 backstroke, Grishaeva sat atop the podium, finishing with a time of 57.57. Junior
Lindsay Burbage picked up the bronze medal after swimming a time of 1:05.01 in the 100 breaststroke.
The 200 butterfly saw sophomore
Hannah Schoenauer place third with a time of 2:08.98, while fellow classmate
Courtney Tedesco claimed second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.37.
Cakiroglu and Grishaeva grabbed their second medals of the day, with Cakiroglu claiming the gold in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.59 and Grishaeva earning silver in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:06.09.
Burbage also garnered her second medal, taking home the silver in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:23.17, while Klimesch secured herself the bronze in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:10.78, marking her second medal of the afternoon.
Sophomore
Karinne Everly registered a time of 58.06 in the 100 butterfly to place second in the event.
In the relays, the 200 medley relay team of Cakiroglu, freshman
Kate Baranova, Schoenauer and freshman
Anna McCarthy took second with a combined time of 1:49.25. The 400 freestyle relay team of Cakiroglu, Schoenauer, Everly and Tedesco finished second with a time of 3:34.30
On The Boards
In the one-meter dive, sophomore
Danielle Guerin and senior
Shreeya Sinha took second and third, respectively. Guerin totaled a 235.58 to grab the silver, while Sinha scored a six-dive total of 234.60 to earn the bronze.

Both the men's and women's swim teams will return to the pool for the Justin Jennings Invitational, hosted by Colgate, in Hamilton, New York, on Friday, October 10, through Saturday, October 11. Friday's events begin at 4 p.m., with Saturday kicking off at 10 a.m.
