CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Mid-American Conference is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Anne Steinbrecher, the wife of MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher. Anne passed away at home on April 18, 2024, with her husband and children by her side, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and love.
Anne was born on November 16, 1960 and was a proud graduate of Baylor University. Anne and Jon would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in August. Together, they raised three children: Grace (and son-in-law Taylor Rhea), William, and Matthew. Anne cherished her role as a grandmother, as she leaves behind two grandchildren, Cole (5) and Leo (1) Rhea.
Anne was not only a devoted wife and mother but also a member of the MAC, NCAA, and College Football Playoff communities. As the First Lady of the Conference, she was a fixture at athletic events and meetings, offering her unwavering support and infectious enthusiasm to all who knew her.
Funeral arrangements for Anne are currently incomplete and will be shared with the public at a later date. The MAC family extends its deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to Dr. Steinbrecher, their children, grandchildren, friends and all who were touched by Anne's warmth and grace.
