Eastern Michigan Eagles
YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team opened the 2026-27 season hosting the EMU Hidden Duals, a two-day fall event played on the outdoor courts at The Chippewa Club Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25-26, against the University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University and Ferris State University. 
 
The event served as the official debut for head coach Jeff Westmeyer, who is joined by assistant coach Casey Smith and graduate assistant Elina Ivanova — all three in their first year with the program. With six returners and two transfers from the University of Findlay in Maria Batinic and Valentina Salek, the Eagles used the two-day format to build chemistry and identify areas for growth heading into official competition. 
 
Eastern Michigan opened singles play against Toledo and won a pair of matches over the Rockets. Salek provided the brightest moment of the round, rallying from a lopsided second set to claim a 10-6 match tiebreak win over Anastasia Akuginova (6-4, 1-6, 1-0). Matilde Parreira added the other victory with a clean 6-4, 6-4 win over Isabella Barretto. 
 
The Eagles shifted to doubles against Bowling Green and found their footing, winning two of three matches. Lara Diaz Zayas and Kseniia Saenko set the tone with a commanding 6-2 victory over Qianyu Liu and McKenzie Shelton, while Pehal Kharadkar and Parreira added a 6-4 win over Richardlyn Francois and Lucia Gaio.
 
Day 1 closed with singles against Ferris State, where EMU posted a 4-3 edge — its best singles showing of the event. Kharadkar delivered a dominant 6-4, 6-0 performance over Yara Madi, Sabrina Tolstova rolled past Kalyna Nichita 6-1, 6-2. Parreira continued her efficient form with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Elliot Nolan, Iva Daneva closed the round with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Aimee Reynoso Cupido. 
 
Toled returned for the doubles round on Day 2 and swept all four matches, each by a 6-4 margin or via tiebreak, representing the most difficult stretch of the weekend for Eastern. The Eagles regrouped in doubles against Ferris State, winning three of four. Salek and Tolstova opened with a 6-4 win over Madeline Peisley and Ainzley Zulueta, Diaz Zayas and Saenko added a 6-3 victory over Yara Madi and Aimee Reynoso Cupido, and Batinic and Kharadkar closed the round with a 6-3 win over Katherine Earnest and Elliot Nolan. 
 
The event concluded with singles against Bowling Green, where EMU won four of six matches. Batinic delivered one of the weekend's more memorable performances, claiming the first set in a 7-2 tiebreak over Kiera Taylor before closing out the match, 6-2, in the second. Salek added a comfortable 6-4, 6-3 win over McKenzie Shelton; Diaz Zayas defeated Lucia Gaio 6-3, 6-2; and Saenko closed the day with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Konstantina Adamopoulou. 


Toledo Rockets
YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Toledo women's tennis team kicked off its 2026 fall season with the Eastern Michigan Hidden Duals this weekend, posting an overall record of 25-5.

The Rockets concluded the event with a 17-3 singles record and 8-2 mark in doubles competition against Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan and Ferris State.

Senior Gaby Rondon led Toledo with a perfect 6-0 record across singles and doubles play. Sophomore Annika Munson also did not drop a match throughout the weekend with a 4-0 record, while five Rockets only dropped one competition.

Newcomer June Vigneron had a strong showing in her first outing as a Rocket, totaling a 5-1 record with a 3-0 mark in singles play.

Bowling Green Falcons
YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Bowling Green State University tennis team opened the Autumn Williams Era on a successful note, as the Falcons participated in the EMU Hidden Duals on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 25-26). All seven players on the roster picked up at least one singles win, and the Orange and Brown went 6-3 in doubles matches over the weekend in the four-team event, which took place at the Chippewa Club.

Libby Blair and Konstantina Adamopoulou each went 2-1 in singles play, while Richardlyne Francois, Lucia Gaio, Qianyu Liu, McKenzie Shelton and Kiera Taylor each posted one singles victory over the weekend.

In doubles, Blair and Taylor went 2-1 at the top flight, while the Gaio/Shelton duo was a perfect 2-0 at flight number two. Adamopoulou also was 2-0 on the weekend, teaming with Liu and Francois for one win apiece at the third flight.

Taylor's second doubles win with Blair, against a Ferris State duo, came on her birthday.

On the weekend, Adamopoulou (4-1) and Blair (4-2) each picked up four total wins, while Gaio, Shelton and Taylor all had three and Francois and Liu two apiece.

BGSU returns to the road next weekend, making a short trip north for the Toledo Hidden Duals on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 2-3).
