Broncos Rack Up Wins at Hope Collegiate Invitational

Buffalo Bulls
BINGHAMTON, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team opened the 2026-27 season at the Carousel Classic, hosted by Binghamton University, this weekend.

In Friday's doubles action, Sofia Zagumennova and Annabelle Ganescu cruised to a 6-0 victory over Binghamton's Popescu/Jaros 6-0 and before beating another Bearcat duo in Wilson/Walia 6-2. The duo of Sarah Hartel and Julia Laspro also picked up a pair of wins on day one, defeating Binghamton's Walia/Jaros 6-1 before taking down Colgate's Bohan/Rothwell 6-1. Blanca Berges and Liv Roestel split a pair of matches, defeating Colgate's Cristobal/Mastre 6-4 before falling to Binghamton's Khandare/McLean, and Maria Glowacka and Aleksandra Kachuskina did the same, defeating the Montero sisters of Colgate 7-5 before dropping a contest to Binghamton.

On Saturday, Berges and Roestel continued their strong play, defeating the Montero sisters of Colgate 7-5 while Hartel and Laspro also picked up a win over Colgate.

The Bulls then swept singles action to close the weekend as they went 8-0 as a team. Laspro defeated Binghamton's Michelle Rosenblit 6-2, 6-2, Kachuskina defeated Binghamton's Sophie Popescu 6-2, 6-1, Glowacka beat Colgate's Rothwell 6-1, 6-4 and Hartel earned a hard-fought win over Colgate's Sophia Kurinets 7-6(3), 6-1. Roestel defeated Colgate's Jolie Mastre 6-2, 6-4, Berges cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Colgate's Vivian Hall, Ganescu defeated Colgate's Avery Isaac and Zagumennova rounded out the scoring for UB with a win of her own over Colgate's Gigi Bohan.

Up next, Buffalo will return to action at the WNY Invite, hosted by St. Bonaventure, on Friday, October 9.

HOLLAND, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's tennis team racked up the wins at the Hope College Invitational over the weekend. 

SINGLES
Freshman Pei Chi Ho picked up an 8-1 win over Shannon Dudy from St. Marys and then defeated Gabriela Rocker from Hope, 8-4, to advance of the Singles A Draw Finals. Ho met fellow freshman Mahika Khanna in the Finals. Khanna advanced after an 8-5 win over Ryan Morrey from Calvin and an 8-3 win over Victoria Herrington from Spring Arbor. Ho got the best of her classmate 6-2, 6-2, in the finals. 

Two Broncos more Broncos met in finals of the Singles B Draw. Ella Fitcher picked up wins (8-2) over SMC's Anna Gardner and CC's Sabrina Lopez (8-1). Julia Hostakova earned wins over SAU's Dayra Novella (8-1) and HC's Sophia Grzesiak (8-2) to earn her showdown with Fitcher. Fitcher prevailed in the finals 7-6 (7-4), 6-3).

Singles Draw C saw Daniela Richardson win in the finals over Hope's Anna Kolb 6-2, 6-1. To get there, she defeated Addy Wilkinson from St. Marys (8-0) and Ana Ornellas from Calvin (8-2). Nearly making the finals was Xintong Jiang, who earned an 8-5 win over Liliana Salas Bejarano before falling in the semifinals to Hope's Ana Kolb.

DOUBLES
It was an all-Bronco final in the Doubles A Draw. Ho and Fitcher worked their way to the finals with wins over the duo of Dudy and Pischalko from St. Marys (6-0), and Rocker and Grzesiak from Hope (6-1). Khanna and Hostokova teamed up and made it to the finals after victories against Herrington and Dean from Spring Arber (6-1) and Morrey and Grissom from Calvin (6-0). Ho and Fitcher got the best of Khanna and Hostokova, 8-3.

The duo of Richardson and Jiang made it to the finals of the Doubles B Draw, falling to Novella and Salas Bejarana from SAU, 8-2. 

The Broncos are back in action on Friday and Saturday, hosting the annual Betsy Kuhle Invitational at Sorensen Courts. Admission is free.
