LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine field hockey picked up its first win of the 2026 season Friday afternoon, defeating Longwood 3-1 at Trager Stadium.
The victory marked the first home win for head coach Toby Platt and Bellarmine's first home victory since Oct. 15, 2023. The Knights improved to 1-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play with the win.
The two teams battled through a scoreless first half, with Bellarmine holding a 5-7 disadvantage in shots but keeping Longwood off the scoreboard. Megan Clauser made three saves in the opening half, while the Knights continued to create opportunities of their own, including a pair of shots from Wende de Witte.
Bellarmine broke through in the third quarter when Luna Tuncay scored her first goal of the season at the 35:07 mark. Wende de Witte provided the assist, giving the Knights a 1-0 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
De Witte then added a milestone of her own early in the fourth, finding the back of the cage at 49:02 for her first career goal. The goal extended Bellarmine's lead to 2-0.
Longwood answered with a goal at 52:43, but Bellarmine responded less than five minutes later. Tuncay scored her second goal of the afternoon at 57:32, this time off an assist from Brooke Buchanan, to restore the Knights' two-goal advantage and seal the 3-1 victory.
Tuncay finished with two goals on the afternoon, while de Witte added a goal and an assist. Megan Clauser made four saves in goal as Bellarmine held Longwood to one goal on 12 shots. The Knights registered 16 shots in the victory.
The win gave Bellarmine its first victory of the season, its first home win under Platt and its first home triumph in nearly three years, while Tuncay and de Witte each recorded their first goals of the season and de Witte secured the first goal of her collegiate career.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan Field Hockey won its first Mid-American Conference game under first-year Head Coach Kelly Terwilliger, 1-0 over Ball State, Friday, Sept. 25.
The Chippewas struck first, with three minutes remaining in the first quarter. Annabelle Cotroneo inserted to Teah Savignano, who stopped for Carolena Ryon, who found the back of the cage on Central Michigan's first corner of the game. It was Ryon's fourth goal, Cotroneo's second assist, and Savignano's first assist of the season.
Central Michigan maintained the 1-0 lead through three quarters. CMU earned its first penalty shot of the year with 10 minutes remaining in regulation, as Sophia Havrilla broke low and drew a foul on a BSU defender. Ryon took the penalty attempt, which was blocked by the padded hand of the Cardinal keeper.
Ball State pulled its keeper with three minutes of game time remaining, but the defense held strong the rest of the way, securing the win.
Junior keeper Jenna Billig earned her second shutout of the season, collecting four saves in the effort.
BSU led the advantage in penalty corners and total shots, with five and 16, respectively. The Chippewa defense stood tall, stopping 12 Cardinal shots before Billig had the opportunity to make a save.
Pre-game, international players from both the Chippewas and Cardinals rosters were recognized as the Chippewas celebrated their global connection game. Combined, the rosters feature 15 international athletes, representing eight countries.
Central Michigan Field Hockey will return to the pitch Sunday, Sept. 27 to battle No. 4 Massachusetts, who is coming off a 7-0 win over the Kent State Golden Flashes. During the game, Central Michigan will recognize the 50th anniversary of the 1976 AIAW State and Regional Championship team.

KENT, Ohio – The No. 4 UMass field hockey team exploded for six goals in the span of 18:07 bridging the second and third quarters, on the way to a convincing 7-0 MAC win at Kent State on Friday afternoon. Six different goal scorers accounted for the Minutewomen's seven goals while defensively, UMass allowed just one shot all afternoon to improve to 9-0 on the season and 2-0 in the MAC.
Isla Campbell led the offense with her first-career multi-goal game, scoring UMass' first and third goals of the afternoon. The others were scored by Kristy Leonard, Emily Barrett, Sophie Kent, Niamh McKenzie and Lina Kroeger.
UMass now has four straight shutouts, outscoring its opponents 32-0 in that span, while allowing just 15 shots and nine shots over the four games.
The Minutewomen began Friday with a 9-0 first-quarter edge in shots, with one finding the back of the net. Campbell scored her first of the afternoon at the 6:53 mark, burying a rebound.
Less than a minute into the second, Chiara Curcio played a terrific aerial to Leonard, who made a move into the circle. Her first shot was blocked, but she immediately put home the rebound for a 2-0 lead at 15:51.
Midway through the second quarter, Campbell scored her second goal, starting a stretch of three UMass goals in the span of 2:43. After Campbell's goal at the 22:33 mark, Barrett scored her sixth of the season just 33 seconds later. Barrett took a great feed from Kent and carried into the circle before unleashing a hard reverse into the corner of the goal, giving UMass a 4-0 advantage.
Just 1:50 after Barrett's marker, Kent scored her first goal of the season near the post, off a feed from Leonard. That gave the Minutewomen a 5-0 halftime lead.
It took just 1:27 into the third for UMass to add insurance as Elani Sherwood centered to McKenzie, who made a deflection past Kent State goalkeeper Michaela Skinner for a 6-0 lead.
Only 2:31 later, UMass earned a penalty stroke after a Minutewomen corner was stopped by a Golden Flashes defender with her body. Kroeger went on to convert the opportunity, her second of the season for a 7-0 lead at 33:58.
That marked the game's final scoring, as the Minutewomen continued to control play. UMass held a 10-0 edge in third-quarter shots and 5-0 advantage in the fourth, on the way to the 7-0 final.
Final shots were 31-1 in favor of UMass, with the Minutewomen holding an 8-1 edge in penalty corners. Over the last three games, UMass has now held its opponent without a shot in eight of the 12 quarters. Rozárie Mrázová finished with one save in the first half before being replaced by Colleen Conlan
in the second, who did not face a shot.
The Minutewomen return to action on Sunday for a 1 p.m. showdown at Central Michigan.
No. 16 Miami 4, James Madison 2

OXFORD, Ohio – No. 16 Miami defeated James Madison 4-2 Friday after two goals from striker Justina Intzes in the fourth quarter. Miami's defense limited the Dukes to just two shots all game and kept them without a penalty corner through 60 minutes of play. Miami improves to 5-3 with the win (2-0 MAC) while JMU falls to 1-6 (1-1 MAC) with the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both defenses held strong during the first quarter, with Justina Intzes taking the only shot.
- The first two penalty corners of the game came five minutes into the second quarter for Miami, but neither was successful.
- Bet Gifra maneuvered the ball downfield with five minutes to play in the half and generated the first of a string of three penalty corners. She scored on the third corner, her fourth goal of the year, to break the tie and make it 1-0.
- James Madison flipped the script early in the third quarter, sustaining possession and firing off two quick goals to take the lead.
- Kylie Coughlin delivered the equalizer late in the third quarter after picking up the rebound on a blocked penalty corner shot.
- The RedHawks generated two early penalty corners in the fourth quarter. On the second, Intzes scored on assists from Coughlin and Jülia Fernandez.
- Intzes scored again four minutes later, this time off an assist from Maggie Reed, to solidify a 4-2 win.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Miami finished the game with 18 shots (nine on goal). The RedHawk defense held James Madison to just two shots all day.
- The RedHawks generated nine penalty corners and did not allow any to JMU.
- Intzes took five shots (three on goal) and scored two goals.
- Coughlin finished the game with two shots (one on goal), one assist, and one goal.
- Maggie Reed had one shot and one assist.
- Fernandez had one assist.
- Malena Sabez took four shots (one on goal).
- Sloane Wearren took two shots (both on goal).

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio field hockey team (3-4, 1-1 MAC) returned home to Pruitt Field on Friday afternoon (Sept. 25) to host Mid-American Conference foe Appalachian State (5-4, 1-1 MAC), defeating the Mountaineers, 2-1.
The Bobcats went down early, but two goals in the third quarter powered them to their first win over the Mountaineers since 2019.
Individually, junior back Deborah James (Hertfordshire, England) and junior midfielder Marie De Grande (Groot-Bijgaarden, Belgium) each had two assists, both coming off penalty corners. Sophomore midfielder Tori Cisney (Cleona, Pa.) had three shots on goal, with one finding the boards for her third goal of the season. Junior forward Addy Basile (Lewes, Del.) had her first goal of the season, with her goal being the eventual game-winner.
In goal, junior Molly Schreiner (State College, Pa.) continued her streak of great starts, playing all 60 minutes allowing one goal while notching two saves.
App State got off to a hot start, maintaining possession early in the first quarter, earning a few early penalty corners early in the contest. One of those penalty corners resulted in an early goal for the Mountaineers, coming just four minutes into the game.
After going down early, it took time for Ohio's offense to get going, as App State controlled the game in the opening period, getting one more penalty corner that did not result in a goal before the end of the quarter.
The second quarter was more of the same, as Ohio still waited for their first shot of the game for over 27 minutes before Cisney fired a shot on goal. Neither team scored nor was given a penalty corner in the second period, putting Ohio down 1-0 going into halftime.
A different Bobcats offense was unleashed after the halftime break however, as they came out aggressive and fast, making sharp runs and putting pressure on the Mountaineers defense.
About halfway through the third quarter, a few shots from Cisney and sophomore back Ava Florence (Louisville, Ky.) kept the pressure on, ultimately leading to a penalty corner, the first of the day for Ohio.
The Bobcats wasted no time, immediately capitalizing off that penalty corner with a goal from Cisney. James and De Grande provided assists.
Ohio's defense held App State in check, not allowing a single shot for the rest of the period. Before the period ended, Ohio tacked on one more, with Basile putting Ohio on top after De Grande and James again assisted on a penalty corner.
Ohio started the fourth quarter with the lead, but App State came out aggressive on offense, earning two penalty corners that were shut down by the Ohio defense.
That defense was lock-down for the rest of the game, only allowing two more shots in the fourth period, allowing Ohio to hold its lead and secure the win.
