MUNCIE, Ind. — Ball State baseball continues to cement its reputation as one of the nation's premier developers of professional talent.
The Cardinals currently have six alumni on Major League Baseball active rosters, tying Ball State for the fifth-most active MLB players among all NCAA programs. Only Florida (12), Arizona (8) and Vanderbilt (8) have more active big leaguers, while Ball State is tied with UCLA and Oregon State with six. The total is the most of any Mid-American Conference program.
The six Cardinals represent a variety of organizations across Major League Baseball:
- Alex Call – Los Angeles Dodgers (Outfielder)
- MLB debut: 2022
- World Series champion with the Dodgers
- The 2016 MAC Player of the Year continues to provide veteran depth and defensive versatility in Los Angeles.
- Zach Cole – Houston Astros (Outfielder)
- MLB debut: 2025
- Became one of the few players in MLB history to homer on the first pitch of his Major League career.
- Returned to the Astros during the 2026 season after beginning the year in Triple-A.
- Drey Jameson – Arizona Diamondbacks (Right-handed Pitcher)
- MLB debut: 2022
- A key bullpen arm for Arizona after returning from injury, Jameson continues to add to an impressive Major League resume.
- Kyle Nicolas – Baltimore Orioles (Right-handed Pitcher)
- MLB debut: 2024
- Nicolas has reached the majors with multiple organizations, showcasing the power arm that made him one of Ball State's top professional prospects.
- Tyler Schweitzer – Chicago White Sox (Left-handed Pitcher)
- MLB debut: April 8, 2026
- The 2022 MAC Pitcher of the Year became Ball State's newest Major Leaguer earlier this season after climbing through the White Sox organization.
- Chayce McDermott – Los Angeles Dodgers (Right-handed Pitcher)
- MLB debut: 2024
- After reaching the majors with Baltimore, McDermott is now part of the Dodgers organization and remains among Ball State's growing list of Major League pitchers.
