YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee announced today, June 9, that Trevor Beerman has been named Head Baseball Coach. Beerman, who served as the program's interim head coach during the 2026 season, is the ninth head coach in Eastern Michigan baseball history.
A rising leader in collegiate baseball, Beerman has helped elevate programs at the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels while building a reputation as one of the nation's emerging recruiters, player developers, and program builders. He spent the past three seasons at Eastern Michigan, including last year, when he served as interim head coach and guided the program in all aspects.
"Trevor has proven he is the right leader for Eastern Michigan Baseball," said Wetherbee. "Over the past year, he guided our program through a significant period of transition with poise, resilience, and professionalism. He kept our team united, continued to recruit at a high level, prioritized the development of our student-athletes, and built strong relationships with our alumni, donors, and supporters. His ability to lead through adversity while advancing the program academically, athletically, and culturally speaks volumes about the coach and person he is. We are excited to officially name Trevor as the next head baseball coach at Eastern Michigan University and look forward to the future of our program under his leadership."
"I am incredibly honored and excited to be named the Head Baseball Coach at Eastern Michigan University," Beerman said. "I want to thank President Kelly, the Board of Regents, Scott Wetherbee, and everyone involved in this process for their trust and belief in me. Eastern Michigan stands as a special place with a proud baseball tradition, strong student-athletes, and meaningful support across the university and community. My family and I have embraced Ypsilanti as our home over the past three years, and we are grateful for the relationships we have built along the way. I am proud of the foundation in place and excited for what lies ahead for this program. We will continue to develop student-athletes who excel in the classroom, serve their community, and compete for championships. I look forward to leading Eastern Michigan baseball into its next chapter."
Beerman emerged as one of the youngest head coaching candidates in the Mid-American Conference when he was elevated to interim head coach in November 2025. During his first season leading the Eagles in 2026, he managed all aspects of the Division I program, including roster construction, recruiting, staff oversight, player development, compliance, budgeting, and alumni relations.
The Eagles finished the 2026 season with a 19-34 overall record and a 12-21 mark in Mid-American Conference play while navigating one of the nation's largest senior classes and significant roster turnover. Despite those challenges, Eastern matched its conference win total from the previous season and recorded several noteworthy accomplishments.
The 2026 Eagles produced 95 doubles, 79 stolen bases, 245 walks, and 392 strikeouts on the mound. Defensively, EMU posted a .975 fielding percentage, ranking fifth in the MAC and 78th nationally.
One of the signature moments of the season came when Eastern Michigan swept rival Central Michigan in a three-game series for the first time since 1983. The sweep highlighted a six-game winning streak that showcased the roster's competitiveness and resilience.
Beerman's impact extended well beyond wins and losses. Under his leadership, the baseball program continued its strong commitment to academic excellence. During the Winter 2026 semester, baseball recorded a department-best team GPA of 3.481 while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.545.
Eastern Michigan also earned significant academic recognition as John Carmichael, Cole Egan, John Hale, Bruce Jellison, and TJ Williams were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
Player development became a hallmark of Beerman's tenure. Catcher Nick Weaver earned MAC All-Defensive Team honors after leading the conference and ranking third nationally with 28 runners caught stealing. Weaver became only the third player in program history to earn All-MAC Defensive Team recognition.
Prior to becoming interim head coach, Beerman served as Eastern Michigan's recruiting coordinator, outfield coach, and offensive assistant from 2023-25. During that span, the Eagles returned to the MAC Tournament in 2025 for the first time since 2018 and secured the program's first postseason victory since 2017.
The EMU offense made significant strides during his tenure. In 2024, the Eagles hit .300 as a team, ranking third in the Mid-American Conference while finishing second in doubles and among the conference leaders in on-base percentage and stolen bases. In 2025, Eastern ranked among the MAC leaders in batting average, on-base percentage, doubles, and runs scored while reducing strikeouts and improving offensive efficiency.
Beerman also made an immediate impact on the recruiting trail. His 2026 transfer portal class ranked second in the Mid-American Conference and among the nation's top 100 according to 64 Analytics, reinforcing his reputation as a strong evaluator and roster architect.
Prior to arriving at Eastern Michigan, Beerman served as the recruiting coordinator and hitting coach at Chatham University, where he helped engineer one of the most successful stretches in the program's history. Chatham set school records for wins, hits, doubles, triples, home runs, RBI, and walks while producing the first First Team All-Conference player in program history. He also spearheaded the largest recruiting class in school history and implemented data-driven player development systems utilizing Rapsodo, Blast Motion, and Synergy technologies.
Before Chatham, Beerman spent the 2021 season as recruiting coordinator at the University of Charleston. There, he helped the program reach the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament for the first time in school history while assisting with scouting, recruiting, and game planning.
His coaching journey also includes stops at Hillsdale College and Bluffton University, where he worked with multiple position groups, coordinated recruiting efforts, and assisted with all aspects of program operations.
A native of Canal Winchester, Ohio, Beerman played collegiately at Malone University, helping the Pioneers reach two Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament championship games. He earned a bachelor's degree in sports management from Malone before completing a Master of Business Administration in Leadership from Bluffton University.
During his three seasons in Ypsilanti, Beerman helped establish a culture built on competitive excellence, academic achievement, and community engagement. Under his leadership and guidance, the program achieved back-to-back team GPAs above 3.45 while accumulating more than 1,000 community service hours in consecutive years.
Eastern Michigan also invested heavily in the program's future, with nearly $2 million in improvements completed at Oestrike Stadium, including a new turf playing surface, expanded dugouts, improved batting cages, upgraded broadcast capabilities, and enhanced player development technology.
Beerman and his wife, Kaela, welcomed their son, Kayson, in July 2025.
