Sullivan's Walk-Off Grand Slam Lifts No. 1 Akron to Championship Game

AKRON, Ohio — Top-seeded Akron (33-23) secured a 4–2 victory over sixth-seeded Western Michigan University (28-25) in a neutral-site game at Firestone Stadium. The victory propels No. 1 Akron to the 2026 MAC Softball Championship Game on Saturday, May 9 at 1 PM ET.

Lily Sullivan lifted a walk-off, grand slam over the left field wall to propel the Zips to the semifinal win. The victory was supported by a complete-game performance from Madie Jamrog, who allowed only two earned runs while striking out five.

The game remained scoreless through the first four innings before Western Michigan took a brief lead with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Akron responded decisively in the seventh inning, scoring all four of its runs, highlighted by a walk-off grand slam.

Meagan Lee also made a significant impact Akron, going 2-for-2 at the plate and scoring a run. On the mound, Madie Jamrog delivered a complete game victory, pitching all seven innings while allowing two earned runs and striking out five, solidifying Akron's defensive efforts.

Ava Geyer was a standout player for Western Michigan, pitching a complete game with 6 2/3 innings. Although she allowed four earned runs, she demonstrated resilience by striking out three batters while throwing 127 pitches. Tristen Head contributed offensively with a triple and an RBI during her two-hit performance, showcasing her ability to drive in runs. Meanwhile, Caitlin Tighe delivered a key sacrifice hit and an RBI, adding to her team's efforts. Rylee O'Brien also made an impact, scoring a run and registering a hit. These players were instrumental in their respective roles for the team.
