Fourteen Hits and Four Homers Help Bobcats Forge Ahead in Tournament Play

AKRON, Ohio — No. 4 Ohio (37-19) emerged victorious in a high-scoring affair, defeating No. 5 Central Michigan (25-24) by a final score of 15–13. Ohio's offense was propelled by four home runs and a five-run sixth inning, securing its lead after a back-and-forth contest. Central Michigan managed to rally with a significant eight-run fifth inning but ultimately fell short.

Belle Hummel was the story for Ohio, going 3-for-3 while scoring three runs, including a double. In the process, Hummel broke the MAC Softball single-season records for hits (87) and runs scored (77) during tonight's win, adding a historic touch to her outstanding performance. Four different Bobcats barreled homeruns this evening, led by Colleen Bare with two runs and four RBIs. Izzie Wilson added two runs, three hits, and two RBIs while Brenna Farmer launched a homerun over the wall and crossed the plate twice. Jordyn Wycuff added to the home run fun while contributing two runs and two RBIs of her own.

Central Michigan's standout performers included Jenna Kuzara, who delivered a solid offensive performance with two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs, contributing significantly to the team's run production. London Williams also made a significant impact, recording three hits and four RBIs, along with a home run. Grace Koenig was notable for her contribution as well, with two hits and two RBIs.

In a thrilling 15–13 victory for Ohio over Central Michigan at Firestone Stadium, Belle Hummel, the Bobcats' leadoff hitter, reflected on the team's perseverance and her personal achievements. "I mean, I had no idea," she said about breaking the single-season MAC hits and runs records during the game. "I mean, it's something great, part of everything I've done this year and can't wait to keep it going."
