Detroit, Mich. –
A high-powered offensive attack carried the Youngstown State women's lacrosse program to its second victory of the season over Detroit Mercy, 15-7, on Saturday afternoon at Titan Field.

Three Penguins notched hat tricks during the contest, as Claire Baenziger, Molly Brooks, and Ally Garrett each had three goals. Gwen Bogash and Maya Griffin kept up at that pace as they each scored twice.

The Penguins set a season-high with six assists as a team, led by Gwen Bogash, who had three, the highest total in her two seasons at YSU. Ava Kreutzer had two assists, while Mackenzie Flannigan dished out one.

Flannigan's day will be remembered more for her defensive efforts. She led the Penguins with seven ground balls and five caused turnovers. Not only do her seven ground balls tie a season-high, but they also bring her season total to 44, setting a new single-season program record. The previous record was 42, set by Tori Bustamante last season. Her season total in caused turnovers now rises to 26, which currently sits at fourth in the single-season record book.

Alyssa Edwards had a strong day in the cage, collecting seven saves while allowing just five goals.

After the Titans got on the board first at the 12:46 mark of the first quarter, YSU was able ot settle in and take firm control. After the Titans scored at the 5:22 mark of the quarter, ending a 22-minute-plus scoreless drought, Garrett secured a hat trick at the 3:46 mark, followed by a Claire Baenziger goal two minutes later, giving the Penguins a 6-2 lead heading into halftime.

Kendyll Jerry found the back of the cage off a pass from Gwen Bogash to push the lead to a five-goal advantage for YSU at 7-2 just over 90 seconds into the quarter. UDM would answer at the 10:40 mark of the quarter before YSU would reel off four goals over five minutes, the first from Baenziger, the next two from Brooks, and the final from Bogash as the 'Guins lead was up to eight goals at 11-3 with 2:31 left in the quarter.

The Titans would end the run, but not long after Ava Kreutzer would join the scoring party as the Penguins took advantage of being a player-up just one minute into the final frame. The teams would trade goals for much of the quarter, as YSU would add on scores from Bogash, her second of the day, as well as Baenizger and Brooks, who each secured hat tricks within the final 6:14 of the game.
