OXFORD, Ohio – The No. 3 Toledo women's tennis team took down No. 2-seeded Buffalo in the Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinals, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon in Oxford, Ohio. Sophomore
JJ Scholten clinched match point on the No. 2 singles court.
Toledo (12-8, 6-2 MAC) advances to the MAC Tournament championship match for the fourth time in the last five seasons (2022, 2023, 2024, 2026). The Rockets will face host No. 4 Miami in Sunday's championship, beginning at noon.
Buffalo picked up the doubles point after posting a 7-5 win on the No. 2 court and a 6-0 win on the No. 3 court for an early 1-0 lead.
UT responded in singles play by winning the first set on all six courts. Freshman
Anastasia Akuginova got the Rockets on the board with a straight-set win on the No. 4 court while sophomore
Annika Munsonfollowed up with a 6-2, 6-2 win on the No 6 court to put Toledo ahead, 2-1.
Sophomore
Neha Guru fired off a 6-2, 6-3 victory on the No. 5 court to put Toledo on the brink of victory, 3-1. Scholten rallied for a three-set victory, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 on the No. 2 court to clinch the match and send the Rockets to the championship.
