OXFORD, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team won its second-ever Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship with a 4-2 victory at Miami on Sunday afternoon. Freshman
Anastasia Akuginova clinched the win on the No. 4 singles court.
This marks the second title in program history, with both crowns coming in the past three seasons (2024, 2026).
Akuginova and
JJ Scholten were named to the MAC All-Tournament Team with Scholten bringing home MVP honors.
The Rockets (13-8, 6-2 MAC) got off to a hot start by picking up the doubles point with a 6-4 win on the No. 2 court and a 6-0 victory on the No. 3 court.
In singles play, Scholten extended UT's lead with a 6-4, 6-4 decision on the No. 2 court. Miami got on the board with a straight-set win on the No. 1 court to get within one, 2-1.
Jone Ibanez fired off a 7-6 (9-7), 6-2 victory on the No. 3 court to put the Rockets on the brink of match point, 3-1. The RedHawks used a straight-set win on the No. 5 court to get back within one, 3-2.
Akuginova clinched match point with a three-set 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 win on the No. 5 court to send the Rockets to their second-ever NCAA Tournament.
