MAC 2026 Women’s Tennis Championship Set for Saturday Morning in Oxford

OXFORD, Ohio – The 2026 Mid-American Conference Women’s Tennis Championship kicks off this weekend in Oxford, Ohio, as the top four teams compete for the prized tournament title.

All three matches will be played at the Miami Tennis Courts (outdoors). In case of inclement weather, a match will be played at the Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton, Ohio.

Massachusetts, Buffalo, Toledo, and Miami will face off on Saturday, April 25, in the semifinal matches starting at 10:00 AM. The championship match will be played at 12:00 PM on Sunday, April 26, and the crowned champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship.

The University of Massachusetts captured its first MAC Regular Season Championship in the final match of the season, the first since becoming a full-member institution in the 2025-26 academic year.

Massachusetts looks to make history with its first MAC Championship title after joining the league as a full institution member at the beginning of the 2025-26 season.

Defending MAC Champion Buffalo strives to repeat as champions and secure back-to-back berths into the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship.

Toledo is hungry to take home the conference trophy back to the Glass City, after earning the program’s first title in 2024.

This year’s host, Miami, hopes to keep the tournament trophy in Oxford and celebrate for the first time since 2019.

Below are the team previews in order of tournament seeding, provided by the Athletic Communications Departments
 
No. 1 Massachusetts (16-4, 7-1 MAC)
AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 1 University of Massachusetts tennis team begins Mid-American Conference Championship competition on Saturday, April 25, against No. 4 Miami (OH) in Oxford, Miami. First serve is slated for 10 a.m. at the Miami Tennis Courts.

The Minutewomen earned the No. 1 seed for only the second time in program history, doing so in the 2000-01 season, and for the first time with head coach Juancarlos Nunez at the helm.

 UMass capped the regular season with a 16-4 overall record and a 7-1 MAC record. The team finished its home schedule with a 9-1 record, winning eight straight at home dating back from February 15 through April 19. The Minutewomen also went on an eight-match win streak, both home and on the road, from March 8 to April 10, which included a seven-match win streak in the conference.

Massachusetts' opponent, Miami (OH) completed the regular season with an 8-13 overall record and a 4-4 league record. The Minutewomen and RedHawks met last on March 20 in Oxford, Ohio, where UMass came away with the 4-3 victory.

Earlier in the week, the MAC announced postseason awards, as Nunez and senior Ella Faessler highlighted four awards for the Minutewomen. Nunez was named the MAC Coach of the Year, marking the second time in his career to receive the honor. Faessler garnered MAC Player of the Year, earning the accolade for the first time in her career and becoming the fourth Minutewomen to tab conference Player of the Year, with the last time being in 2024.

Additionally, Faessler was placed on the All-MAC First Team, as junior Amelia Tye landed on the All-MAC Second Team. Faessler's All-Conference honor was the third in her career in as many years, while Tye picked up the honor for the second straight year.


No. 2 Buffalo (19-6, 6-2 MAC)
BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team (19-6, 6-2 MAC) heads to Ohio for the 2026 Mid-American Conference Tournament, hosted by Miami (OH). Matches will be held at the Miami Tennis Courts (outdoors) or Riverside Athletic Club (indoors).

The Bulls enter the tournament as the two seed and will take on three seed Toledo in the second semifinal match of the day on Saturday at 2pm. Top seed Massachusetts will take on the RedHawks in the first semifinal match at 10am.

Saturday's semifinal winners will play for the championship match on Sunday at 12pm, with the winner receiving the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Buffalo enters the tournament with a 22-6 overall record and 6-2 league mark. The Bulls present a balanced attack as all six players in their lineup have reached double digit win totals in singles play this season. Sophomores Maria Glowacka and Sarah Hartel lead the team with 23 wins while graduate student Esmee Andresen is close behind with 21 wins, including 15 at the No. 1 position. Hartel and fellow sophomore Blanca Berges led the Bulls with a 6-2 record in MAC play. In doubles action, Andresen and Glowacka lead the Bulls with 21 wins, including a 16-7 mark at the first position, and Hartel and Julia Laspro are close behind with 16 wins, including 14 in dual action.

Toledo enters the weekend with an 11-8 overall record and 6-2 MAC mark after defeating Bowling Green in the regular season finale on Sunday. They are on a three-match win streak, including a win over Massachusetts to hand the Minutewomen their lone loss of the year. The Rockets led by All-MAC First Team selections Isabella Baretto and JJ Scholten. Baretto has compiled a 22-9 overall record, primarily at the second position, while Scholten earned postseason honors for the second straight season, tallying a 21-10 singles record and 6-2 MAC mark at first singles. In doubles action, Baretto and Jone Heha Guru lead the way with an 11-5 record at the first position.


No. 3 Toledo (11-8, 6-2 MAC)
TOLEDO, Ohio –
The No. 3 seed Toledo women's tennis team will face No. 2 seed Buffalo in the 2026 Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Championship semifinals on Saturday, April 25. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. from the Miami Tennis Courts in Oxford, Ohio. Live results are available here.

The winner of the Toledo/Buffalo match will face the winner of the No. 1 seed UMass and No. 4 seed Miami contest in Sunday's championship match at 12:00 p.m.

Scouting the Rockets
Toledo is set to compete in its fifth-straight MAC Championship this weekend. The Rockets are riding a three-match win streak into the conference tournament after concluding the regular season with a 5-2 win over Bowling Green in the Battle of I-75. Sophomore Annika Munson clinched match point against the Falcons with a straight-set, 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) win on the No. 5 court.

Freshman Isabella Barretto and sophomore JJ Scholten earned First Team All-MAC accolades on Wednesday after tallying outstanding seasons. They became the first pair of teammates to earn First Team honors since Cassie Alcala and Sloane Teske in 2024.

Scouting the Bulls
Buffalo posted a 6-2 record in MAC play this season, winning their its first five conference matches en route to earning the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament. Esmee Andresen was named to the All-MAC First Team while Maria Glowacka earned All-MAC Second Team honors.

The Rockets and Bulls met once during the 2026 campaign. UT fell, 6-1 in Buffalo, N.Y. on April 3.


No. 4 Miami (8-13, 4-4 MAC)
Miami Tennis
 clinched a spot in this week's MAC Tournament and will be the No. 4 seed, facing No. 1 seed Massachusetts at 10 a.m. Saturday in the semifinals. The Championship match will take place at 12 p.m. Sunday. All matches are scheduled for the Miami Tennis Courts in Oxford but could be moved to Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton, Ohio, for weather purposes. Miami dropped matches at Marshall and Ball State last week.
