BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (22-28, 8-13 MAC) split their doubleheader against the Syracuse Orange (18-20, 4-12 ACC) on Tuesday afternoon at Nan Harvey Field. Buffalo won the first game behind a complete game shutout by Olivia Russ. This marked the program's first win over the Orange since the 2009 season and their first win over a Power 4 program since defeating Penn State in 2022.
Following today's games, Reagan Terwilliger is now the single season program record holder for stolen bases with 28. This record has stood since the 2010 season.
It was all Buffalo in the first game of the afternoon as balanced defense led to offense. After a Reagan Terwilliger walk, Nicole Allen reached base off an error by the shortstop. Bri Delaney reached on a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners. The Bulls then executed a double steal to perfection as Terwilliger scored to go up 1-0 after the first.
They added a pair of runs in the third to push their lead to 3-0. Terwilliger got the offense started with a two-out walk. Allen followed her teammate's footsteps and smacked a triple to the centerfield wall. Delaney then singled to third base to score Allen.
In the fourth, Tabitha von Kolen hit a lead-off single to center. After a sacrifice bunt, she advanced to third on a groundout. Allen's bat stayed hot as a single through the left side scored von Kolen.
That was all the offense the Bulls needed as they won, 4-0. This was Russ's 13th career complete game and third career shutout. She allowed just four hits with a pair of walks to go with her two strikeouts. Allen and Delaney each went 2-for-3 from the plate as the former recorded two RBIs.
The Bulls are back in action on Friday at Toledo for a doubleheader. Catch the MACtion on ESPN+.
