BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Central Michigan Softball team split its first two games against Buffalo, winning the first game 16-7 in six innings and dropping the second game 10-8. The two teams will complete the series at noon on Saturday afternoon.

CMU shifts to 21-18 on the season and 13-7 in conference play, while the Bulls move to 21-27 overall and 7-13 in the MAC.

CMU scored first in game one with three runs in the top of the first inning. The runs came via an RBI single by London Williams and a two-run home run from Grace Koenig. The Chippewas chased the Buffalo starting pitcher in the first inning after the home run.

Mackenzie Langan earned the start for CMU and worked a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the first and second innings.

In the top of the third inning, Jenna Kuzara and Alexa Carter both hit their eighth home runs of the season, moving CMU's lead to 5-0. The Bulls tacked on two in the bottom of the inning with an RBI triple, and one more with an RBI double.

In the fourth inning, an RBI single off the bat of Rache Cairo extended CMU's lead to three runs, 6-3.

A solo home run led off the bottom of the inning for Buffalo and the Bulls took the lead with back-to-back RBI singles at 7-6.

In the top of the sixth, the bats absolutely erupted for the Chippewas. CMU scored 10 runs in the inning to reach the final score of 16-7 in six complete innings.

In the sixth, chaos ensued with a single from Angela Petrovitch, a single from Rachel Cairo, and a walk for Tori Briggs. Petrovitch scored to even it at seven on a passed ball.

Emma Lotus reached via error by the second baseman which scored Ashley Bila and Rachel Cairo to put CMU up by two. Jenna Kuzara then singled, and London Williams followed that up with a three-run home run. With the bases now clear, Alexa Carter ripped a double and was moved to third with a fly ball from Grace Koenig.

On a single from Cierra Laska, Carter scored. The lineup started again and Angela Petrovitch recorded another single, her second of the inning that advanced Laska.

Rachel Cairo singled to load the bases, and a single up the middle from Tori Briggs scored Laska and Petrovitch. Emma Lotus then singled to score Cairo, and an RBI groundout off the bat of Kuzara scored Cairo.

The Bulls led the bottom of the inning off with a walk, but that runner was stranded after two strikeouts from Aubrey Strelow and a ground out.

Langan threw the first three innings for CMU, surrendering all seven runs, but collecting four strikeouts.

Strelow entered in relief in the fourth and finished the game with just two hits allowed, eight strikeouts and just two walks.

Now with two outs, Gorman stole second base before Allen singled up the middle. Smithson smacked a double right down the left field line that scored both runners.
