DETROIT - The Massachusetts women's lacrosse team led 12-0 after the first quarter and wouldn't look back in a dominant 22-3 win at Detroit Mercy on Saturday. Dylan Lyons and Katie Peterson each scored four goals to lead the offense, all coming in the first half as the Minutewomen cruised to their ninth straight win.
UMass improves its record to 13-2 and 6-0 in the MAC.
"We are extremely proud of the team's start and execution in the first quarter," said head coach Jana Drummond. "Full team connection through the entirety of the game. Team was excited to get so many people in."
Lyons' four goals marked her sixth straight hat trick and 10th consecutive multi-goal game. Seven different Minutewomen tallied multiple points, led by six (two goals, four assists) from Ava Connaughton. Kassidy Morris added four points via two goals and two assists, eclipsing 300 career points in the process — just the third player in program history to reach the milestone.
Cate Marshall finished with a career-high 21 draw controls, with Heather Clark leading the defense with three caused turnovers to tie a career high, along with three groundballs. UMass caused 15 of Detroit's 23 turnovers on the day.
UMass led 5-0 before the game was four minutes old, led by two goals apiece from Lyons and Peterson. The goals kept coming early and often, with the margin reaching 12 after one quarter behind five goals over the final 4:34 of the stanza.
Four second-quarter goals, behind four different goal scorers, gave the Minutewomen a 16-0 halftime lead.
Katie Onderdonk then Norah Prizzi made the margin 18-0 early in the third before Detroit's first tally. The Minutewomen easily remained in command, though, reaching 20 goals with 3:34 still left in the third behind Janie Papel's first-career goal. Saturday marked the fifth time in the last eight games UMass has scored 20+ goals for the nation's second-ranked scoring offense.
Final shots were 49-11 in favor of UMass, with the Minutewomen holding a 24-3 edge in draw controls and 21-17 advantage in groundballs. Goalkeeper Bayley Duffy stopped all four shots sent her way in the first half, with Aidan Summer making one save in the second.

KENT, Ohio – Career highlight performances from end to end at Dix Stadium Saturday afternoon as Central Michigan Lacrosse thumped Kent State, 15-9, in a battle for the fourth and final spot with one game left before Mid-American Conference tournament.
The Chippewas will host second-place Akron next Saturday (April 25; Noon ET) for the regular season finale—a win-and-in tournament berth scenario.
Central Michigan entered the day in a four-way tie for fourth place with Kent State, Robert Morris and Youngstown State. Saturday's results fell in favor of the Chippewas, now in sole possession of the last tournament spot.
Ava Regitz (Marietta, Ga. / Blessed Trinity) set the tone with a career-high 14 draw controls (fourth in program history), just one week after tying the program record with six caused turnovers at Youngstown State.
Anna Farrar (Milton, Ga. / Cambridge) collected her fifth hat trick of the season in the first five-plus minutes of the contest. She scored twice in the second half to add insurance at the midway points of both quarters and secure a career-high five goals.
Leila Kahler (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake) replicated her career-best performance from her first career start last season, also against Kent State, with 14 saves (.609 save percentage).
Regitz's performance led to a 20-6 advantage at midfield, the largest margin for the Chippewas since Jozy Allen '25 collected the program's record (16) at Robert Morris last season.
Farrar's five-goal output is the most by a CMU player since Skye DePrado '25 opened the 2024 campaign with six at Butler.
After the 5-5 first quarter tally, Kahler posted 13 saves to just four goals allowed (.765 save percentage) to clinch her second consecutive game with a .600-plus save rate and her fourth time in six league games over the .500 mark.
Caye Kalbacher (Austin, Texas / Stephen F. Austin) and Mia Bradley (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) each added a hat trick to CMU's highest scoring contest since April 14, 2024 at Eastern Michigan (W, 16-7).
Kelsey Barratt (Voorhees, N.J. / Eastern) and Julia Werner (Gurnee, Ill. / Warren Township) became the fourth and fifth player of the season to eclipse the 20-point mark.
Saturday marked Kalbacher's third hat trick of the season, Bradley's second. Bradley's five-point performance made the rookie the first Chippewa to eclipse 30 points in 2026 with 31. Kalbacher and Farrar remain on her heels with 28 apiece.
Werner tallied a career-high three assists along with a goal of her own late in the fourth quarter; Barratt assisted Kalbacher on CMU's first goal, scored once herself to have a strong hand in two of the team's five goals in the first quarter, added a second assist on Lili Sorenson's (Kildeer, Ill. / Stevenson) score in the third quarter.
Barratt, Kahler and Victoria Chesson (Cincinnati, Ohio / Wyoming) will be recognized in senior day festivities pregame next Saturday against the Zips.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- A slow start could not keep the Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team down for long as the Eagles used a 10-goal run to pull away from visiting Robert Morris University for a 13-3 Mid-American Conference victory on Senior Day at Scicluna Field in Ypsilanti, April 18, to continue their push toward a postseason berth. The Eagles (9-6, 4-2 MAC) broke the program record for wins in a season while downing the Colonials (4-11, 2-4 MAC) for the first time in five tries as nine different players scored goals while the defense clamped down and limited an opponent to the fewest goals in program history.
How It Happened
Eastern Michigan fell behind early, conceding the game's opening goal before Emerson Henry (Ashburn, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson) netted the equalizer late in the first quarter, sending the teams into the second stanza tied at 1-1. The second period saw Robert Morris grab momentum with back-to-back goals, building a 3-1 lead midway through the frame. Despite the deficit, the Eagles responded with goals from Mackenzie Blackwell (North Beach, Md./Northern) and Stella Burke (Peterborough, Ontario/St. Peter's Catholic Secondary) to send the contest into halftime tied at three.
The third quarter proved decisive as the Eagles kept their foot on the gas offensively while building a wall defensively. Kendall Nagle (Sudlersville, Md./Queen Anne's County) broke the deadlock with a game-changing tally, igniting a run that the Colonials could not answer. EMU rattled off five unanswered goals in the frame, including strikes from Katheryn Wilson (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek) and Kelsea Dague (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), with creative play making from Tracy Grollman (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) fueling the attack. The Eagles' defense, anchored by Maddy Porter (Montrose, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) in goal, clamped down completely, holding RMU scoreless for the entire second half.
Eastern's offensive onslaught continued into the fourth quarter with goals from Blackwell, Burke, Kyleigh Dill (Dover, Del./Dover) on a free-position shot, Mak Grisinger (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington/Central Michigan) and Abby Alderman (Lusby, Md./Patuxent), ultimately pushing the margin to 13-3. In total, nine different Eagles found the back of the net and the team assisted on nine of its 13 tallies with Grollman grabbing four of the helpers. The win also solidified the Eagles' position in the MAC standings and marked a breakthrough moment against a longtime conference foe.
