CHICAGO, Ill. –
The Toledo men's tennis team rolled to its first Mid-American Conference win of the season with a 6-1 victory over UIC in Chicago, Ill. on Thursday afternoon.

The Rockets fired off wins on five out of six singles courts as well as won the doubles point to earn the match win.

Junior Poonthong Komolpisut clinched the match win with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win on the No. 2 court. Hanamichi Carvajal posted a three-set win on the No. 1 singles court while Lucas Britez earned a 4-6, 7-5, 12-10 victory on the No. 4 court.

Matias Olivero cruised to a straight-set win on the No. 3 court as freshman Pannawat Suttisomboon tallied a 7-5, 6-1 win on the No. 6 court.

Carvajal and Komolpisut combined for a 6-2 win on the No. 2 doubles court while the duo of Britez and Suttisomboon tallied a 6-3 win on the No. 3 court to secure the point for the Rockets.

Toledo will wrap up its weekend in Illinois with a conference matchup at Northern Illinois. First serve from DeKalb, Ill. is set for 11:00 a.m. ET on Saturday, March 21.

DeKALB, Ill. –  The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team downed Buffalo, 4-3, at home on Thursday evening. Senior Federico Scotuzzi clinched the match with a three-set victory at No. 4 in a match that lasted just over three hours to put away defending conference champions.

NIU held  a 3-1 lead with three courts up for grabs. Scotuzzi took the first set against Minjae Kim 7-6, but dropped the second 2-6. Kim led 5-4 in the final set, but the senior fought back to win 7-6 in a tiebreaker to seal the match for the Huskies.

Buffalo struck first by taking the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. NIU responded by sweeping the top three courts in singles.

No. 63 Iker Gaztambide Arrastia recorded the first win in singles, defeating Clement Mainguy 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2. Nikola Puntaric followed that with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Theodoris Mitsakos on the top court.

Lorenzo Leti Messina secured a hard fought 7-5, 7-6 win at No. 3 to setup Scotuzzi to close out the Bulls.

NIU will host Toledo on Saturday for an 11 a.m. match at Rochelle High School.
