Sawyer Solitaria, Kent State

Sawyer Solitaria was dominant at the plate in the Flashes’ season-opening sweep of Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond, going 8-for-14 (.571) with three home runs, four RBI, and six runs scored across the three-game series. The sophomore right fielder posted a staggering 1.214 slugging percentage and .600 on-base percentage for a 1.814 OPS, including a two-homer performance in the series opener, where he went 3-for-5 with three RBI. Solitaria reached base safely in nine of his 15 plate appearances, was perfect on the basepaths (1-for-1 in stolen bases), and played flawless defense in right field with nine putouts.
 
MAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Luke Neiswonger, Central Michigan
Freshman, Fort Wayne, Ind. (Homestead)


True freshman Luke Neiswonger made a splash in his collegiate debut, allowing one hit while striking out eight and walking one on 67 pitches over five shutout innings in CMU’s series-clinching 6-1 victory at West Georgia. Neiswonger allowed a one-out single and then issued a walk in the first inning before inducing an inning-ending double play. He was perfect over the ensuing four innings and left with a 5-0 lead in picking up the victory.
