BGSU Goes 5-0 at IU Indy Double Duals to Open Season

INDIANAPOLIS – The Bowling Green swimming and diving team opened its 2026-27 season with five wins Saturday at the IU Indy Double Duals, beating IU Indy 200-99, Xavier 216-74, Butler 222-71, Eastern Illinois 235-58 and Bellarmine 239-53 at the Indiana University Natatorium.

The Falcons won 12 of 16 events, including both relays.

Samia Becdach won four times. She swam the freestyle leg on the winning 200 medley relay, won the 50 freestyle in 23.35 and the 100 freestyle in 51.01, and led off the winning 200 freestyle relay. The medley relay team of Bella Treib, Anna Helmuth, Karina Solera and Becdach finished in 1:43.74, ahead of IU Indy's A relay (1:45.38). Becdach, Katie Countryman, Alicia Bohler and Emma Klotz won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:34.99, beating IU Indy's A team (1:36.65) by 1.66 seconds.

Helmuth and Kylie Thompson each won an individual event in their collegiate debuts. Helmuth won the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.47, edging IU Indy's Vicky Surdyka (1:05.81), then won the 200 breaststroke in 2:24.40. She also placed second in the 200 individual medley (2:10.11), behind Xavier's Emma Tenhundfeld (2:09.43). Thompson won the 500 freestyle in 5:08.31, 0.84 seconds ahead of teammate Caroline Toledo (5:09.15), and was third in the 200 freestyle (1:55.28).

Bowling Green took the top three places in the 500 freestyle, with Elise Dinehart third in 5:13.55. Toledo won the 1000 freestyle in 10:37.84, and Dinehart was second in 10:40.78.

Solera won the 100 butterfly in 56.07 and was second in the 200 butterfly in 2:04.87, behind Xavier's Norah Simich (2:03.97). Treib won the 100 backstroke in 56.59.

In diving, Natalia Mayorga won both boards, scoring 267.90 on 1-meter and 282.50 on 3-meter. Victoria Miller was second on 1-meter with 239.80. Ava Roffel (244.15) and Claire Werner (241.10) placed second and third on 3-meter, giving the Falcons the top three spots.

Bowling Green returns to action Friday, Oct. 9, when it hosts Akron at 1 p.m. at Cooper Pool.
