Broncos Begin Season With Dual Win Over Wilberforce

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- 
The Western Michigan gymnastics team opened the 2026 season with a 194.450-137.975 win over Wilberforce on Sunday afternoon at University Arena. 

Freshman Casey Mooney had a strong collegiate debut for the Broncos, tying for first on vault, finishing second on bars, tying for third on beam and winning the all-around. Mooney posted a 9.775 on vault, tying Brooke Gelesko for the top spot. Julie Korfhage scored a 9.775 on bars to win the event, with Mooney sitting behind her at 9.750. Kate Parks, a junior transfer from Ohio State, took third with a 9.725 in her WMU debut. 

Beam was Western Michigan's strongest event on the day, with the team combining for a 48.900. Reese Samuelson scores a 9.825 to take the top spot, followed by Reilan Garvey with a 9.800. Mooney and fellow freshman Linda Uro tied for third with 9.775's. 

Hannah Milton took first place on floor with a 9.800, followed by Korfhage at 9.750 and Kennedy Cooper in third at 9.725. 

Western Michigan heads down to Ball State for a non-conference meet against the Cardinals on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 1 p.m.
