KEWADIN, Mich. – The BGSU women's golf team began their fall schedule with a record-setting victory at the A-Ga-Ming Invitational over Labor Day weekend.
The tournament was played at the A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort in Kewadin, Mich. and was hosted by Central Michigan University. Rounds one and two were played on Sunday, while the tournament concluded with a third and final round on Labor Day.
Bowling Green began the tournament strong, finishing +1 over par and landing in second overall after the first round. In the second round, the Falcons found their stride, as they shot -3 under par overall and jumped into the top spot. With this second-round performance, the Falcons broke the program record for the best 18-hole round, as they shot a 285 as a team. Furthermore, with the Falcons score this weekend, they have set the record for the best score in a 54-hole tournament in program history, as they finished with an overall score of 873, landing them +9 over par.
"I'm so proud of the team for securing the win this weekend! We had the goal of coming in and competing for a tournament title right away, and the team was ready to go. They showed poise, discipline, and the will to win all the way down the stretch." Said head coach Erin Fahey on the team's performance.
Along with the Falcons record setting performance as a team, sophomore Addison Kartusch posted a record setting individual performance, as she shot a 205 over three rounds of play. With this score, she finished -11 under par, to claim top spot in the tournament and set a record for the best 54-hole score in program history.
"Huge congratulations to Addison Kartusch who won the individual title shooting 11 under par! She played some excellent golf and stayed true to her process the entire time. Overall, it was a fantastic start to the season!" Fahey said regarding Kartusch's individual performance.
