KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan University Vice President/Director of Athletics
Dan Bartholomae has announced the hiring of
Matt Zedrick as the new head coach of the Broncos' women's golf program.
Zedrick brings more than a decade of collegiate coaching experience to Kalamazoo - both as a head coach and assistant coach - most recently serving as Associate Head Coach at the University of Nebraska. Known for his total player development and strategic course management expertise, Zedrick has helped lead individuals and programs to multiple NCAA Regional appearances and record-breaking performances across multiple institutions.
"We are excited to welcome Matt Zedrick and his family to the Bronco community," said Bartholomae. "Matt is a seasoned leader with an impressive coaching pedigree and a proven record in developing strong students and strong golfers. Matt has led record turn arounds in scoring average both as the Head Coach of a mid-major program and as an Assistant Coach in the Power 4. I was so impressed with Matt's vision for WMU, which centered on the complete development of the student-athlete on and off the course."
Zedrick joined the Huskers in 2022 and made an immediate impact, helping the team climb into the top 25 nationally by mid-fall and secure an NCAA Regional berth in his first season. His leadership and contributions led to a promotion to Associate Head Coach in 2023.
Prior to Nebraska, Zedrick served as an assistant coach at Chattanooga and spent six successful seasons as the head coach at Purdue Fort Wayne, where he guided the Mastodons to numerous program records and 19 WGCA All-America Scholar honors. During his tenure in Fort Wayne, Matt oversaw record improvement in team scoring average and top team score. He has also held coaching roles at Marshall University, Garden City Community College, and in multiple youth golf development organizations.
"I'm honored and humbled to take the reins to lead the Western Michigan Women's Golf program! It is an exciting time to join the Bronco family," said Zedrick. "I'm thrilled at the opportunity to help our players chase greatness on and off the golf course. I'd like to thank
Dan Bartholomae,
Julian Jones, the search committee, and executive staff for their trust in my vision for this program. Lastly, I want to thank my wife and two daughters for allowing me to chase my dream. Go Broncos!"
Zedrick is widely respected for his forward-thinking approach to player development, including his use of advanced technology such as Trackman and the DECADE golf course management system to enhance training and competitive performance. His detailed approach to course strategy, swing analysis, and data-driven instruction has resulted in measurable growth for student-athletes at every level. Zedrick also brings a strong recruiting background, having built successful rosters at multiple institutions through talent identification, relationship building, and a focus on academic and athletic fit.
A native of Danville, Ill., Zedrick earned his undergraduate degree in exercise science from Illinois State and a master's degree in adult education from Marshall. He and his wife, Gwen, have two daughters, Sophia and Tillie.
