EVANSVILLE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University soccer team earned its first win of the 2025 season at the University of Southern Indiana with a 3-1 result Thursday, Aug. 28, at Strassweg Field.

Junior Olivia Sipsock (Medina, Ohio/Medina) scored the game-winner in the 62nd minute while freshman Kaylee Synk (North Olmsted, Ohio/St. Joseph's Academy) scored her first career goal in the 74th minute to boost EMU's advantage.

How It Happened
Goalkeeper Ella Holland (Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody/Samford) staved off an early attempt from USI to keep the game scoreless through five minutes, despite having to leave her line as the shot from the hosts was sent back by the veteran keeper.

Eastern scored the match's first goal in the 27th minute. USI headed a well-placed set piece cross from Rosalie Takacsy (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) into its own net as Takacsy was credited with her first career goal.

EMU took its 1-0 advantage into halftime before USI leveled the match in the 49th minute.

The Eagles regained the lead in the 62nd minute as redshirt junior Sophia Baumann (Romeo, Mich./Romeo) left the ball for a cross by freshman Meredith Werner (Broadview Heights, Ohio/North Royalton) that found Sipsock in the middle of the box. Sipsock's left-footed strike slipped past the USI keeper and inside the far post to put EMU up, 2-1.

The Green and White continued to apply pressure, registering another set piece goal in the 74th minute. Junior Sarah Van Euwen (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) sent in a long cross just outside of the box that bounced around before eventually finding Synk's foot. After a quick dribble, the freshman fired a shot from 19 yards out that clanked off the right post but ricocheted off the USI keeper and trickled past the goal line.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – T
he Western Michigan women's soccer team used a strong second half to secure its first win of the season. The Broncos defeated Creighton, 2-0, on Thursday evening at the WMU Soccer Complex.

Abby Werthman and Drew Martin scored the goals for WMU, while Mikayla Coore-Pascal, Justina L'Esperance, Avery Peters and Werthman picked up assists. Freshman goalkeeper Reagan Sulaver made two saves and collected her first career shutout and win.

FIRST HALF
Both teams came out aggressive in the opening 45 minutes, with WMU earning a corner kick in the first two minutes. Nothing would come of the chance and Creighton would take it down the field for the first shot of the game. Sulaver would handle the chance and keep the score tied at 0-0.

Sulaver would make another save in the 11th minute before Coore-Pascal had WMU's first shot of the game blocked out front for a corner kick. A little bit after that, Peters ripped a shot on net that was scooped up by the Creighton keeper.

Neither team would find much offense down the stretch and the game would remain tied 0-0 heading into the half.

SECOND HALF
WMU took control of the second half, getting an early chance off of a corner kick. Ava Beckett had her shot miss just wide of the net. However, not too long after that, Werthman broke through for her second goal of the season, ripping a shot by the Bluejays' keeper to make it 1-0 in the 64th minute.

The Broncos kept their foot on the gas, getting another look from Beckett in the 72nd minute. WMU scored another goal in the 80th minute after some nice passing. Werthman gave the ball to Peters who found Martin in the middle of the field. She beat the keeper to make it 2-0 in favor of the home team.

Madi Canada tried her luck one last time late in the game, but her shot just missed. The Brown and gold would go on to win by a final score of 2-0.

DETROIT, Mich. –
The Bowling Green University women's soccer team, trailing at the half, exploded for four second-half goals to post a 4-1 win over the University of Detroit Mercy on Thursday night (Aug. 28). The non-conference match was held at Titan Field.

Ellie Pool scored a pair of goals, including what would prove to be the game winner, while Isabella Mazzaferro and Emma Stransky each found the back of the net as well.

Payton O'Malley had one save in goal as the Falcons moved to 3-1-0 on the season.

BGSU had advantages of 16-3 in total shot attempts, 7-2 in shots on goal and 9-1 in corner kicks in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Titans took the lead with just over a half hour gone. Abbey Lodato stole the ball in the BGSU end of the field and hit a shot from distance. That shot, from the right side, found the lower-left corner of the goal, caroming off the post and into the net.
• The hosts took that lead into the half, but BGSU had a 12-1 advantage in shots in the second stanza, scoring on four of those 12 shots.
• The Falcons tied the match at the 52:20 mark, with three juniors combining for the goal. Michelle Hochstadt's corner kick found Gabby Lamparty in the goalmouth. Lamparty knocked the ball back across the six-yard box to Isabella Mazzaferro, who was stationed near the left post. Mazzaferro knocked the ball past UDM 'keeper Chantelle Symes for the first goal of her BGSU career.
• Just over eight minutes later, the Falcons took the lead for good. Payton O'Malley's outlet pass found Emme Butera, and the junior played a long ball ahead to Ellie Pool on the left side of the field. Pool let the ball bounce once on the turf, then chipped a shot over Symes and into the far side of the net. That goal would prove to be the winner.
• With just under 11 minutes remaining, Emma Stransky gave the Falcons a two-goal lead. The junior hit a turnaround shot from the top of the 18-yard box. Symes was able to get her fingertips on the ball, but was unable to keep it from finding the upper portion of the net.
• Pool was arguably the most dangerous player on the field for most of the night, as the sixth-year collegian fired seven shots – more than double UDM's team total. She put an exclamation point on the Falcons' win with a goal in the final minute of play. Ella Kane crossed the ball from the right side, and Stransky hit a shot that was blocked, but Pool cleaned up the rebound, knocking it into the back of the net for her second goal of the evening.

In the 21st-minute, senior defender Kelsey Salopek scored right in front of the net thanks to a great assist from the opposite side of the field from her teammate, sophomore forward Jules Dolinski to give the Blue and Gold a 2-1 lead at the half.
