MAC Announces Week 5 Baseball Weekly Awards

Brady Birchmeier, Bowling Green

Brady Birchmeier continued showcase a hot bat for the Falcons, aiding Bowling Green in a sweep over Akron on the road for the first time since 2014. Birchmeier began the series with a pair of back-to-back three-hit games with two RBI in the first game. As for the second, Birchmeier not only belted a home run, but logged two doubles, four RBI and two runs scored for the Orange and Brown. He followed it up with another home run in the series finale, his second in as many days, while tallying three RBI and scoring twice. Over the weekend, Birchmeier recorded a team-high nine RBI, increasing his MAC lead on the season to 29.

Evan Appelwick, Miami

Evan Appelwick helped lead Miami to a sweep over Northern Illinois this weekend after amassing four home runs and eight total hits on 15 at bats. This included two home runs in an 8-2 series opener victory over the Huskies on Friday and a more than 400-foot three-run home run Sunday in Miami's eight-run go-ahead second inning that led them to an 18-8 win. Appelwick had eight total RBIs for the week, scored eight runs, stole a base, and struck out only once through four games.

MAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Cooper Katskee, Miami

Cooper Katskee entered the game in relief for Miami on Friday after three innings, and NIU couldn't record another hit for the remainder of the game. Katskee gave up zero hits, zero runs, and just one walk, all while striking out seven batters. His work on the mound made him the winning pitcher and secured an 8-2 victory for the RedHawks to start their three-game series.
