The Scholar Athlete of the Week Award is presented to a MAC male and/or female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. An institution can nominate up to one male and one female student-athlete per week in any of that current season's sports. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).

Gavin Garcia rushed for a career-high 151 yards and the game-winning touchdown to lead Kent State to its first road victory over Northern Illinois since 1966. Garcia carried the ball 24 times for an average of 6.3 yards per attempt. His 26-yard scoring run with 4:11 remaining helped the Golden Flashes overcome a 10-point deficit early in the fourth period.

Week’s Achievements (detailed description of week’s events): Amber Tretter averaged 11.5 points, 14.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in a pair of contests at the Paradise Jam. The junior had 13 points, 15 rebounds and four assists versus Washington State and followed that up with her second straight double-double, securing 10 points and 13 rebounds in a win over Marist. Overall, Tretter shot 64.3% from the field over the weekend and connected on 3-of-5 from behind the arc.
