Central Michigan's Aure, Craner Earn Titles at Michigan State Open
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Central Michigan's Kellan Aure and Gavin Craner earned weight-class championships on Saturday at the Michigan State Open at Jenison Field House.

Aure, a redshirt sophomore, went 3-0 to win the 141-pound class in the Open Division of the tournament.

Craner, a freshman wrestling in his first collegiate event, posted a 3-0 mark to win the 184-pound class in the Freshman/Sophomore Division.

Also for the Chippewas, Nick Blackburn (141) and Archer Anderson (125) each placed second, Mason Shrader (157) was third, Luke Cochran (197) and Nick Marienfeld (174) each placed fourth, Cole O'Boyle (197) placed fifth, and Mason Alessio (174) finished sixth.

Anderson and O'Boyle wrestled in the Freshman/Sophomore Division, while all of the others wrestled in the Open Division.

Aure opened with an 8-0 major decision victory over Jacob Brennamen of Edinboro, then defeated Indiana's Lucas Peters, 4-1; and then downed Blackburn in the final, 5-2.

Cramer downed Ohio State's Carson Mize, 11-8, in his opening bout and then posted a 20-2 technical fall victory over Tyson Clear of Edinboro to reach the final, where he defeated Cody Kirk of Davidson, 8-3.

Kent State Produces 16 Place Finishers at Michigan State Open
East Lansing, Mich.– 
The Golden Flashes Wrestling team opened up the 2025-2026 season with strong performances across the board with 16 place-finishers at the Michigan State Open on Saturday, which was good for most placers from any team in the tournament.

With a Freshman/Sophomore Division and Open Division, the Blue and Gold saw eight placers in each division. Mason Tieffel advanced to the 141-pound Freshman/Sophomore Division finals, while JT Chance and Carson Miller both advanced to the Open Division Finals at the 157 and 165-pound classes respectively. All three finished the day at second place.

Tieffel pinned Jace Morgan of Michigan State and Miller took down TJ Schierl in a 4-1 decision to advance to the finals. JT Chance beat Darius Marines of Michigan State in the semifinals 5-3. Tieffel lost the finals in a tech fall, while Miller lost in a 4-0 decision to Edinboro's Ryan Burgos. Chance placed second after a medical forfeit in the final match.

Third-Place finishers in the Freshman/Sophomore division included Jake Jonker, who beat his teammate Braxton Quaintance 4-2 at 174 pounds. Mason Higley(197), who had a strong outing in his first collegiate competition, beat Max Acciardi(Arizona State) in his final match of the day to win third. 

Trent Thomas and Blake Schaffer placed third in the open division at 184 and 197 pounds respectively. Thomas beat teammate Holden Martin by medical forfeit as Schaffer defeated Luke Cochran of Central Michigan in the third-place match.

Kent State had four fourth-place finishers in the Freshman/Sophomore Division with Tyeler Hagensen(125), Silas Stits(157), Reese Stephen(165) and Quaintance(174). Martin(184) also placed fourth in the Open division.

At 174 Pounds, Chris Sanchez finished fifth in the Freshman/Sophomore division. In the Open division, Nicholas Molchak and Keegan Knapp also finished in the top five at 133 and 157 pounds respectively. Landen Duncan also finished sixth in the Open division at 141 pounds.

The Golden Flashes will return to Northeast Ohio for two dual meets in two days. They will take on Mount Union at Stow-Munroe Falls High School on Friday and host the University of Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday at St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio.


SIUE Makes Strong Showing at Cyclone Open
AMES, Iowa –
 Marcel Lopez led a group of 10 SIUE wrestlers who finished in the top five Saturday at the Cyclone Invitational.

Competing at Hilton Coliseum, Marcel Lopez place second at 133 pounds. He defeated Utah Valley's Jake Castagneto and Iowa State's Garrett Grice before dropping the championship match to top-seeded Zan Fugitt of Wisconsin.

As a team, SIUE placed fourth with 101.5 points. Iowa State won the five-team tournament with 226.5 points followed by Wisconsin (182), Utah Valley (111), SIUE and California Baptist (81).

Brock Woodcock collected third place at 165 pounds. SIUE's Alec Peralta (141), Hayden Whidden (157), Dominic Lopez (174), Deron Pulliam (184) and Nick Nosler (197) all finished fourth in their respective weight classes.

Tavius Hosley (165), Caleb Neal (174) and Bryson Buhk (285) fought back from opening-round losses to finish fifth overall.

SIUE welcomes Northwestern for its home opener next Saturday. Match time is 5 p.m. at First Community Arena.

George Mason Perfect with Three Wins at George Mason Duals
FAIRFAX, Va. - The Patriots wrestling team earned victories over Campbell, The Citadel and Williams College at the George Mason Duals to open the home schedule on Saturday. 

The Patriots defeated Campbell 34-13, The Citadel 26-16 and William 31-23.  Freshman Tate Hisey (141) notched three wins, the first of his collegiate career and graduate student Logan Messer (174) also notched three wins on the day.

In the first match of the day, the Patriots earned bonus points in six of the bouts against the Camels.  Redshirt junior Evan Maag (165), sophomore Thomas Stofka (157) each recorded a fall, while freshman Anthony Lucchiani (133) and redshirt seniors Kaden Cassidy (149) and Malachi DuVall (184) each registered a technical fall.  Maag defeated a top-10 opponent and Cassidy defeated a top-20 opponent, while Lucchiani's pin was the first of his collegiate career.

Against The Citadel, the Patriots earned bonus points in four of their matches with two major decisions and two falls.  Graduate student Benjamin Monn (125) had a takedown in the first and third period and got the match started with a 7-2 decision over returning NCAA Qualifier Gylon Sims.  Hisey (141) led 3-1 after the first period and scored an escape point  with 40 seconds left in the third for a 4-2 decision.  Cassidy (149) had three takedowns and four near-fall points over the first two periods and cruised to a 16-8 major decision over 16th-ranked Carson DesRosier.  IT's the second straight week that Cassidy have notched a win against a top-16 opponent.

Redshirt junior Evan Maag (165) scored a big takedown late in the second period and another late in the third on the way to a 10-2 major decision over 10th-ranked Thomas Snipes.  Messer (174) posted a pin in the first period and DuVall (184) ended his match in the second period with the fall to propel the Patriots.

In the final match of the day, George Mason earned bonus points six times against Williams College.  Freshmen Anthony Basile (149), Jackson Albert (157) and Tyson Rakers (165) each made their NCAA debut.  Basile recorded a fall at 1:55 of the first period to win his first collegiate match.

Messer (174) racked up the points, taking an 8-3 lead into the third period before scoring two more takedowns for a 15-4 major decision.  Freshman Jack Kelly (184) built an 8-4 advantage in the first period before ending the match with his first NCAA fall with 1:40 remaining in the second.

Lock Haven Powers Past LIU in Opening Dual of the Season
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lock Haven men's wrestling team competed in a pair of duals at the Journeymen Wrangle Mania on Saturday (Nov. 8) and opened the day with a lopsided 48-6 victory over Long Island University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The Bald Eagles fell in their second match to Big 10 affiliate Indiana, 25-8.
 
In Lock Haven's season-opening dual against LIU, the Bald Eagles swept every match but one on their way to a massive victory in non-conference action.
 
No. 29 Wyatt Henson (141), Lucas Kapusta (149) and Kade Sottolano (285) headlined the day by going 2-0 in their respective matches.
 
Henson won by a 20-3 (4:55) tech fall in his opening match vs. LIU, before picking up an 11-2 major decision against Indiana.
 
Kapusta continues his strong start to the season after notching a fall (1:15) over LIU's Tommy Bonasera and a 4-2 decision in the nightcap vs. Indiana.
 
Sottolano followed suit with a fall (0:47) over LIU's Max Ohamuo and a 4-2 decision against Indiana.

The Bald Eagles remain in Bethlehem and will compete in the all-day Journeymen Classic at Freedom High School starting at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9.
 

Ohio Defeats Morgan State at Ohio Showcase
ATHENS, Ohio
 – The Ohio Bobcats wrestling team (1-0) won their first dual meet of the season on Saturday night, defeating Morgan State (0-1), 44-2 at the Ohio Showcase.
  
Freshman Brayden Teunissen picked up the first win of the day for the Bobcats, defeating Jimmie Jones by major decision, 11-1.
 
Freshman Konner Lambers followed with a dominant victory, defeating the Bears' Julian Dawson by technical fall at 5:53.
 
Freshman Abe Hermes followed with another technical fall victory over opponent Marwan Nazeer, giving the Bobcats an early 14-0 lead in the match.
 
At 157 lbs, redshirt junior Derek Raike picked up a win in his season debut, defeating opponent Sincere Bailey by major decision, 9-0.
 
Wrestling at 174 lbs, redshirt sophomore Jeremy Olzko wrestled his way to a lead before his opponent was forced to forfeit due to injury at 3:49.
 
Redshirt Senior Sal Perrine returned to the mat in dominant fashion, defeating opponent Sam Diggs by technical fall at 5:00.  
 
Closing out the meet for the Bobcats was redshirt senior Zayne Lehman, making his debut at 197 lbs. with a strong performance, winning by sudden victory (fall) at 3:00. Lehman's victory closed out a dominant 44-2 victory in the Bobcats' first dual meet of the season.
 
The Bobcats will return to action next Saturday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. at the Convo when they host Wisconsin for a dual meet.
