MAC Announces First Wrestler of the Week Honorees

East Division Wrestler of the Week
Elijah Griffin, 141 lbs., Rider
At the Princeton Open, Griffin made an immediate impact in his Bronc debut, dominating his way to the 141-pound title with wins over two nationally ranked opponents. He stormed into the semifinals with a tech fall, decision, and major decision before taking down No. 14 Wyatt Henson (Lock Haven), the MAC’s preseason favorite at the weight. Griffin’s early takedown proved to be the difference in a gritty 4-3 upset. In the finals, he capped off his breakout performance with an 8-6 win over No. 21 Braden Basile (Army), recording two takedowns to secure the 141-pound championship.
 
West Division Wrestler of the Week
Carson Weber, 149 lbs., Ohio
Freshman Carson Weber provided the highlight of the day for the Bobcats, taking home the title in the 149 lb. freshman/sophomore bracket at Virginia Tech’s Southeast Open. Weber began his day in the round of 16, defeating his opponent from Presbyterian by a major decision, 12-3. Weber moved on to the quarterfinals, defeating his opponent by decision, 4-0. In the semifinals, Weber again won by major decision, 12-1. Wrestling in the final, Weber was dominant, taking home a victory by technical fall, 15-0 with 5:31 remaining.
