Edinboro Opens Dual Action with Shutout of VMI
Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro wrestling team scored bonus points in seven of the 10 bouts as the Scots defeated visiting VMI 44-0 in the first dual action of the season inside McComb Fieldhouse.
Chris Vargo got the match started with a first period tech fall of Tony Burke using just 2:36 to score the 15-0 victory.
Amonn Ohl followed it up with a fall over Declan Strait with 10 seconds left in the second period.
Jacob Brenneman extended the Scot lead to 14-0 with a 7-2 decision over Phoenix Alyea at 141. The bonus points returned at 149 with
Ryan Michaels scoring a 17-1tech fall over Patrick Jordon in 4:34. In the final match before the break,
Garrett McChesney notched a 4-2 4-2 decision over Ray Cmil.
The Edinboro dominance continued after the break with
Ryan Burgos taking a 17-2 tech fall over JT Bowers at 165.
Tate Geiser went the distance with Beau Lewis scoring a 17-5 major decision.
Jared McGill saw his first action of the season earning an 18-3 tech fall over Andrew Barford in 6:36.
Brody Evans got to his offense early and often scoring seven takedowns on his way to a 21-6 tech fall over Caleb Patterson in 2:36.
Aden Roe set the final with an 11-4 decision over Cole Will.
The Scots return to action on Sunday at the Keystone Classic hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.

George Mason Has Six Wrestlers Place, Messer Crowned Champion at Black Knight Open
West Point - George Mason Wrestling competed at the Army Black Knight Open, held at West Point, NY, with strong performances resulting in multiple placements. Overall, six George Mason wrestlers placed, highlighting a successful outing for the team at the Army Black Knight Open.
Logan Messer emerged as the champion in the 174-pound weight class with an impressive 4-0 record. He secured victories over opponents, culminating in a decisive 5-2 win against G. LaPlante from Army in the championship match.
In the 197-pound class,
Donovan Sprouse captured a third-place finish. His matches included a win against Q. Funk from Binghamton, 8-0, and another against J. Van Key from Army, 14-10.
Ben Monn also delivered a commendable performance in the 125-pound division, earning a fourth-place finish. Monn achieved a technical fall against T. Smith from Binghamton, 17-2, and a 4-2 win over C. Lee from USMA..
Geoff Whelan, competing at 141 pounds, finished in sixth place. He secured a technical fall victory against M. Colson from Mercer, 16-1.
Two wrestlers finished on the podium in fifth place.
Malachi DuVall concluded the tournament in fifth place at 184 pounds. DuVall claimed victories over J. Baker (Binghamton), 11-0, and T. Sandoval (Brown), 3-0, after an initial loss to P. Catalano (USMC). After an initial loss to B. Russell (Army),
James Blackman rebounded with a technical fall against T. Sibble from Binghamton, a major decision over R. McPherson (Brown), and a fall win over B. Russell (Army) in a rematch.
