MUNCIE, Ind. — The App State field hockey team defeated Ball State 3-1 on Friday.
Sophia Baxter, Lise Boekaar and Hadley Kuzmicky all scored for the Mountaineers against the Cardinals, with Baxter and Boekaar both notching their 12th goals of the season.
The Mountaineers (12-4, 5-2 MAC) came out aggressively, with Boekaar scoring the first goal of the game less than six minutes into the contest, assisted by Bridget Donovan. Baxter followed up at the end of the period off a penalty corner, giving the Mountaineers a 2-0 lead heading into the second.
Ball State (4-14, 2-6 MAC) scored its lone goal of the game, coming at the end of the first half. Despite four Mountaineer penalty corners and forcing six saves from the Cardinals, App State failed to convert in the period, heading into the halftime break leading 2-1.
App State controlled possession coming out of halftime, outshooting the Cardinals 7-3 in the period. Following a run from Sarah Perkins, Kuzmicky scored her eighth goal of the season to give the Mountaineers a two-score cushion going into the final period.
The Mountaineers continued to apply pressure to close out the game, forcing three saves and generating two corners. App State finished the game outshooting Ball State 27-8, and earning a 10-3 advantage in penalty corners in the 3-1 road conference victory.
The Mountaineers will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., to take on No. 6 Wake Forest on Sunday. The match at Kentner Stadium is slated for noon.

FARMVILLE, Va. – Central Michigan Field Hockey found it's way back to the win column in a 5-3 win over Longwood Friday afternoon.
Carolena Ryon led the charge offensively for the Chippewas, she logged her second hat trick of the season and moved to 10 goals.
Fridays showing was the fourth time of 2025 where the Chippewas scored five or more goals, each time coming as a win.
Mallory Camryn started the scoring for CMU, logging her 15th goal of the season just two minutes into the game for an early Chippewa lead.
Longwood responded midway through the quarter, to tie the game at one.
Ryon logged the Chippewas' second goal of the game two and a half minutes into the second quarter after a barrage of shots, giving CMU a 2-1 lead that would be held until the third quarter.
Eight minutes into the third, Ryon struck again to give the Chippewas a two-goal lead. She was quickly followed by Mallory Camryn for her second goal of the game to put the Chippewas up 4-1.
Ryon struck for the final time two minutes into the fourth quarter to secure the hat trick, and to give CMU a four-goal lead.
The Lancers snuck in two over the final two minutes past keeper Ashley Cogger, who had 11 saves on 14 shots on goal.
The Chippewas' continue their Virginia road trip Sunday, Oct. 26, at Virginia Commonwealth, a final tune up before the regular season conference finale at Bellarmine, Oct. 31.

AMHERST, MA. -- No. 16 Massachusetts (13-2, 6-1 MAC) earned their eight shutout of the season, claiming a 5-0 win over Bellarmine (2-13, 2-5) Friday at Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex. Five different players tallied a goal as the Minutewomen controlled the action with a dominant 21-2 advantage in total shots.
Massachusetts secured its first victory over the Knights in the inaugural meeting between the two programs.
Elena Cococeanu, Cara Falconer, Sophie Kent, Kristy Leonard and Elani Sherwood each recorded a goal in the matchup, with Sherwood tallying a game-high five shots. Fiene Jenniskens continued to be a key facilitator, dishing out a pair of assists on the evening.
Myrte van Herwijnen made two saves in the contest, denying Bellarmine's only two shots.
The Knights were led by Luna Tuncay who recorded two shots.
Massachusetts opened the scoring as Elani Sherwood buried the game's first goal just 91 seconds into the first quarter.
Elena Clococeanu made it 2-0 Minutewomen, firing home a drag flick with 9:19 remaining in the second quarter.
Cara Falconer followed just 1:25 later, deflecting in a pass from Clococeanu to create a 3-0 Massachusetts lead
The Minutewomen went into the halftime break with dominant advantages in shots, 14-0, and penalty corners, 6-0.
Kristy Leonard scored Massachusetts' fourth goal of the afternoon, finding the net on a hard-hit ball from the center of the shooting circle just 2:21 into the second half.
Sophie Kent tallied Massachusetts' second goal of the third quarter, making it 5-0 with 4:51 remaining.
Massachusetts completed the third quarter with a 21-0 advantage in total shots and a 5-0 lead on the scoreboard.
Bellarmine managed two shots in the final quarter but could not find the net, Massachusetts claiming a 5-0 win at the final whistle.

OXFORD, Ohio – The RedHawks beat Ohio 4-1 on Friday in the 1000th game in school history. Miami improves to 12-4 (7-1 MAC) with the win while Ohio falls to 5-11 (3-5 MAC) with the loss.
Finley Payne scored her first goal of the season to put Miami on the board early in the first period.
Sloane Wearren scored the RedHawks' second goal of the day midway through the second period. The score came on a penalty corner with an assist from Malena Sabez.
Justina Intzes scored unassisted, her 17th goal of the season, to close out the first half with a score of 3-0 in favor of Miami.
After two unsuccessful shots early in the fourth, Wearren found the back of the net again to put Miami ahead 4-0. Bet Gifra assisted.
Ohio answered with a goal minutes later to make it 4-1, but was unable to close the remainder of the gap.
The RedHawks totaled 19 shots (two on goal) and held the Bobcats to two shots (two on goal).
Miami generated eight penalty corners and held the Bobcats to two.
Wearren went 2-for-4 with three shots on goal Intzes went 1-for-3 with two shots on goal. Gifra had three shots on goal and an assist.
Miami's final regular-season game will take place at home next Friday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. against Longwood. With a win, the RedHawks can clinch the regular-season MAC title.
