MAC Men's Tennis Closes Out ITA Midwest Regional

CHICAGO – UIC men's tennis reached the halfway point of its 2025 fall season after a competitive weekend at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships, hosted in Chicago, Ill.The event kicked off on

Thursday, Oct. 9, with the Flames battling across four days against some of the top collegiate talent in the Midwest.Seven Flames took part in the tournament, showcasing grit and steady improvement throughout the weekend.

Junior Artem Alekseychuk, sophomore Simon Knezevic, and junior Mihailo Savic advanced to the main draw, with Alekseychuk and Knezevic pushing through to the Round of 32 on Saturday — the final two Flames remaining in singles play.

Western Michigan Broncos
CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Western Michigan men's tennis team wrapped up the 2025 ITA Midwest Regional, hosted by DePaul, in Chicago over the weekend, with the doubles team of Drew Evans and Tim Riedel reaching Quarterfinals to highlight the action.

SINGLES
After Alex Antonopolous and Oscar Corwin earned slots in the Singles Main Draw, joining Ashton Adesoro and Tim Reidel, on Thursday, only Antonopolous advanced to Saturday's round of 32. Antonopolous defeated Toledo's Poonthong Komolpisut 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) and then was pitted against Ohio State's Loren Byers. Byers won Saturday's match 6-0, 6-0.

In the Singles Main Draw Consolation Bracket Corwin defeated Wisconsin's Edouard Aubert 6-2, 4-4 with Aubert retiring in the second set. Adesoro also picked up win, defeating Illinois State's Adrian Dibildox 6-2, 6-3. The Saturday Singles Back Draw saw Dimitri Moriarty picking up a 6-0, 6-4 win over Cleveland State's Tristan Stine. Jonas Keck earned a 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (10-8) win over UT's Lucas Britez, while Chen-Hui Ho defeated CSU's Carl Gelitschka 6-2, 6-1.

DOUBLES
The Broncos had a strong start to the Doubles Draw on Friday, with every pairing winning their opening match. Corwin and Antonopolous defeated Michigan's Mert Oral and Arnav Bhandar 8-3, Keck and Ho defeated Northwestern's Ethan Schiffman and Dylan Charlap 8-6, Riedel and Evans earned an 8-3 win over Northern Illinois' Lorenzo Leti Messina and Federico Scotuzzi, and Matej Kajzer and Moriarty earned an 8-7 (9-7) win against UW's Patrick Meszaros and Edouard Aubert.

The pairing of Evans and Riedel were the only team from WMU to advance past the second round, after beating NU's Chad Miller and Greyson Casey 8-5 to advance to the Round of 16. The duo then met CSU's Tristan Stine and Cole Chappell, earning an 8-4 win to advance to Sunday's Quarterfinals. Evans and Riedel squared off against the Buckeyes' duo of Aidan Kim and Bryce Nakashima, falling 8-4.

Toledo Rockets
CHICAGO –
Junior Poonthong Komolpisut and senior Hanamichi Carvajal led the way for the Toledo men's tennis team at the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament in Chicago, Ill. this past weekend.

Komolpisut and Carvajal teamed up in doubles play and reached the Round of 16 after taking down DePaul's Alejandro Gandini/Sebastain Medica 8-6 and Ohio State's Preston Stearns/JP Day, 8-6. The Rocket duo fell in the Round of 16 to No. 4 seed Luis Llorens Saracho/Peter Nad from Notre Dame in a tiebreaker, 8-7.

Carvajal posted a combined record of 4-2 on the weekend. The Santiago, Chile native fell to Notre Dame's Sebastian Dominko, the No. 1 overall seed and No. 10 ranked singles player in the country, in a three-set match before picking up a straight-set victory over DePaul's Elias Anwar.

Komolpisut picked up a singles win over DePaul's Tobias Leitner 6-3, 6-1. Junior Cole Cozens also recorded two singles victories, taking down Marquette's Luke Coppage and Illinois State's Jett Leong.

Northern Illinois Huskies
CHICAGO, Ill. - Northern Illinois University men's tennis team took a short trip to Chicago, Ill. for the 2025 ITA Midwest Regionals, hosted by DePaul University at XS Tennis Village. Beginning Thursday, Oct. 16 and running through Monday, Oct. 20, the five-day event welcomed in talent from across the region looking to secure NCAA Division I Singles and Doubles Championship bids. 

In day one, the Huskies had three players in the qualifying draw in Iker Dellien VelascoFederico Scotuzzi and Lorenzo Leti Messina. Dellien and Scotuzzi drew a pair of Big Ten opponents in the opening round of qualifying as both men battled but fell short. Messina faced Cleveland State's Cole Chappell but couldn't hold on, dropping the set 6-4, 6-2. 

Dellien and Scotuzzi both responded in consolation matches as Dellien defeated Illinois State's Manuel Pavia 6-3, 6-0 and Scotuzzi outlasted Cleveland State's Maxime Aremon 6-2, 2-6, 10-7. 

Nikola Puntaric qualified for the main draw and saw Marquette's Blake Roegner. Puntaric and Roegner went three sets as Roegner held on to win 3-6, 7-6, 6-4. 

In the doubles main draw, Western Michigan's Drew Evans and Tim Riedel defeated Messina and Scotuzzi 8-3. 

NIU closed the weekend strong as Dellien, Messina, Puntaric and Scotuzzi all recorded singles wins.  

In the doubles consolation draw, Messina and Scotuzzi downed Illinois State's Christian Capacci and Manuel Pavia 6-3. 

NIU is back in action this weekend at the MAC Indoor Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich. starting Friday.
