UMass Women's Tennis Completes Competition at new England Regionals
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts tennis completed competition at the New England Regionals, hosted by Harvard. The three-day event included Minutewomen playing in both singles and doubles matches.
Five Minutewomen kicked off the event in the Qualifying Singles Round of 64.
Madara Markevica defeated her Harvard opponent, Natasha Rajaram, 6-4, 6-4, to advance to the Round of 32. In the Round of 32, Markevica downed Alexandra Torre of Boston College, 6-3, 7-6(3) to earn a spot in the Main Draw Singles.
Amanda de Oliveira took on Selma Bellaouchi of Siena, winning 6-7(10), 6-1, 6-1 to move on to the Round of 32, where she fell to Brown's Hannah Shen, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Ella Faessler also advanced to the Round of 32 after defeating Angel Walia of Binghamton, 6-2, 6-2,before falling to Vasilisa Borisova of Boston University, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.
Martina Pavissich won her Round of 64 match over Lilly Black of Quinnipiac, 7-6(5), 5-7, 6-3, but fell in the Round of 32 to Abigail Lee of Brown, 6-4, 6-1. Fiona Chang dropped her first match to Monika Wojcik, 7-5, 3-6, 10-4.
In the Main Draw Singles, Markevica fell to Cloe Lomans of UConn, 6-2, 6-2, in the Round of 256.
Amelia Tye dropped her Main Draw match, 6-1, 7-5, to Yale's Leena Friedman.
The Main Draw Doubles saw Tye and Faessler team up in the Round of 64, defeating Arya Chabria and Piper Remillard of Stonehill, 8-2. The duo advanced to the Round of 32, falling to Viktoria Lorentzon and Tessa Wachtel of Marist, 8-5.
Chang and Markevica paired up in the first round of doubles competition, dropping their match to Gabriella Mikaul and Jiayi Liu of Boston University, 8-7(3). Pavissich and de Oliveira fell to Friedman and Orly Ogilvy of Yale in their match, 8-2, while
Defne Su Sever and
Owethu Makhanya were downed by Le Moyne's Emma Sanchez and Ella Fernando, 8-3.
Ball State Wraps Up Fall Season at Viking Invite
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Ball State women's tennis team wrapped up its 2025 fall season this weekend at the Viking Invite which was hosted by Cleveland State University.
On Friday, the Cardinals took four singles matches from Youngstown State which saw
Alana Bristow,
Asia Ting Fontana,
Gabriella Barrera and
Jemima Williams-Phillips each earn victories against their respective opponents. Ball State also went 2-1 against host Cleveland State in doubles while Bristow and Barrera posted a 2-0 ledger claiming doubles wins over Cleveland State and Duquesne.
The Cardinals continued their success on Saturday with
Priyanka Rana taking a two-set tiebreaker versus CSU's Jenna Redmile, 1-6, 6-4, 10-6. Barrera, Bristow and Williams-Phillips were victorious in straight frames. Ball State also faced Duquesne in doubles play posting a 2-0 record as Rana paired up with Fontana for a 7-5 defeat over Jasa Rosa and Taisia Yakunina. Bristow alongside Barrera beat Sofia Lopez and Denisse Arinez, 6-3.
Ball State wrapped up play Sunday playing only four singles matches which resulted in a win for Rana and Barrera against Duquesne.
The dynamic duo of
Isabel Tanjuatco and
Sarah Shahbaz will compete at the ITA Conference Masters in San Diego from November 6-9.
Ball State women's tennis will open its 2026 spring slate on Jan. 24 at Big Ten foe Purdue. First serve is at 2 pm ET.
Falcons Sweep Pennsylvania Road Trip
INDIANA, Penn. -- The BGSU tennis team competed for a second day in a row on Sunday, Oct. 12 as they took on Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The Falcons came out victorious, beating the Crimson Hawks 6-1. The Falcons took five out of the possible six singles matches, but dropped two out of three doubles matches.
Libby Blair and
Kiera Taylor continued their dominance in doubles, winning their matchup 6-4.
Tia Clemens continued her strong start to the season, winning her singles matchup 7-5 and 6-1.

The Falcons will be back in action this week as they travel to Champaign, Ill. for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals hosted by the University of Illinois. ITA Regionals are set to begin on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Eastern Michigan Finishes Strong at Wolverine Invitational
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Four members of the Eastern Michigan University tennis team competed at the 2025 Wolverine Invitational, hosted by the University of Michigan, Oct. 10-12, at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Mich., with senior Regina Mendez Carreño leading the way with a 2-1 record in singles play for the Eagles. Three freshmen teammates also competed in the event that featured one singles and one doubles match for each entrant each day.
In singles action, Mendez Carreño posted a 2-1 record on the weekend as she bounced back from a first-day loss to post back-to-back wins. On Saturday, the senior Eagle dropped the first set before roaring back for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Eline Bex (Iowa). She followed that with a straight-set win over Megan Basil (Ohio State), 6-2, 6-3.
Matilde Parreira was the lone freshman to secure a singles win on the weekend as she handed Sally Xu (Iowa) a 6-2, 6-4 loss on Saturday. Both
Pehal Kharadkar and
Sabrina Tolstova competed in three matches over the weekend as well but were unable to grab a victory.
In doubles, Parreira and Tolstova paired together once again and recorded a 1-2 record. On the opening day, the EMU duo nearly grabbed a win as they dropped a 7-6 decision to the Iowa tandem of Pia Kranholdt and Xu. On the final day, the EMU team found its footing and handed the OSU team of Basil and Hephzibah Oluwadare a 6-2 defeat. Kharadkar and Mendez Carreno also played three matches together over the weekend.
Several Eagles will return to action this week when they head to Urbana, Ill., to compete in the 2025 ITA Midwest Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Illinois, Oct. 16-19, at the Atkins Tennis Center. The tournament will feature qualifying and main draw singles play and main draw doubles play with 23 institutions sending athletes to compete. The event will be used to determine who advances to the NCAA Championships in November as the finalists in singles and the winners of the doubles tournament will earn automatic berths into the national event.
