MAC Announces Final Baseball Players & Pitchers of the Week

MAC Baseball Player of the Week
CJ Richmond, Western Michigan, DH
Junior, Indianapolis, Ind. (Park Tudor)
CJ Richmond had multiple hits in all three games of Western Michigan's weekend series at CMU, leading the way with a .462 average (6-for-13), three extra-base hits and six RBIs to help the Brown and Gold secure the No. 2 seed in the MAC Tournament. After going 2-for-4 in the series-opening victory on Thursday, Richmond launched a two-run homer and added a two-run double as a part of WMU's five-run ninth to tie the game on Friday. The junior's four RBIs in the contest equaled his career high. In Saturday's series finale, Richmond delivered a two-run double in the nine-run fourth which broke the game open for the Broncos. His two RBIs brought his total to 60, making him just the fourth player in program history to reach that mark in a single season. Following the weekend, Richmond leads the MAC in hitting at .398 after posting an even .400 mark in conference play.

Blake Bevis, Ball State, 1B
Brentwood, Tennessee (Ravenwood HS)

In a critical series to cap the MAC regular season and secure the league’s No. 3 seed in the MAC Tournament, Ball State’s Blake Bevis batted 9-of-14 while the Cardinals won two of three games on the road at Kent State. He tacked on a pair of doubles and homers with a whopping eight RBI over the weekend. He helped Ball State strike quickly in Game 1 – a second-inning homer gave the Cardinals a 2-1 lead it never relinquished; a third-inning double pushed the lead to 5-1; a fifth RBI came on a fourth-inning single that pushed Ball State’s lead to 8-1. Considered the No. 2 MAC prospect in the MLB Draft according to d1baseballl, Bevis contributed more of the same in an 11-1 win on Friday. He homered in his first at-bat in the second, then singled to drive in Ball State’s final run in the ninth. Kent State snuck away with a 7-2 win on Saturday, but not before Bevis batted 3-of-4 with an RBI single in the first inning as the Cardinals staked an early 1-0 lead. He also walked in Game 3, reaching base four times in his five trips to the plate.

MAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Isaiah Seidel, Bowling Green, Pitcher
Senior, Greenwich, Ohio (South Central)
Isaiah Seidel was lights out in Thursday's (May 16) win over Toledo for BGSU. Seidel entered the sixth inning with the game tied and the bases loaded and registered a strikeout to end the inning. Seidel maintained his momentum through three-plus innings of work, allowing just one hit and one walk while keeping Toledo batters to a .091 batting average. After Seidel entered, Toledo failed to score the rest of the game, granting Seidel the win in the 3-1 final for the Falcons.
