Lee, Irelan Take Home Week 7 Softball Honors

Sophomore Meagan Lee (Leander, Texas) led the Akron offense through a 3-2 week, including the 3-0 sweep of Northern Illinois and a pair of setbacks to Robert Morris. In five games, Lee recorded 14 hits in 21 at bats, hitting for a team-high .667 average. Lee registered two stolen bases en route to touching 14 total bases and scoring one run. Lee had multiple hits in 4-of-5 games as she collected only one hit (1-of-4) in game one at RMU. She followed with a 3-of-4 effort in game two to finish the doubleheader batting 4-of-8 (.500) with one run scored and one strikeout. Lee carried the momentum into the NIU series as she led the Zips hitting in all three games and finished with 10 hits. She went 3-of-5 (.600) in the 11-inning marathon game (1-0) and followed with a 3-of-4 (.750) performance in game two as the Zips claimed a 4-2 win. In Sunday’s series finale, Lee went a perfect 4-of-4 from the plate for a 7-6 win to finish the series batting 10-of-13 (.769).

Macy Irelan’s stellar pitching led Kent State to a sweep of Ball State and first 3-0 start to MAC play since 2016. Irelan recorded two complete game victories, including a shutout, 20 strikeouts and a 0.93 ERA over 15.0 innings. She limited the Cardinals to five hits and struck out seven on Friday as the Golden Flashes took the series opener, 5-0. Irelan tossed a scoreless inning in a relief appearance to start Saturday’s doubleheader and then had a season-high 12 strikeouts in a 6-2 victory that secured the sweep.
