BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team continued a stretch of five wins in nine days to begin MAC play, topping Western Michigan in three sets on Saturday (Oct. 5). The Falcons registered a .282 hitting percentage in the win, advancing to 5-0 in conference play for the third time in the last five seasons. As a team, the Falcons set new season-high marks for a three-set match in kills (45), digs (54) and assists (40). Bowling Green will remain at home for their next two matches, hosting Eastern Michigan on Thursday (Oct. 10) and Central Michigan on Friday (Oct. 11).

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team made quick work of Miami University, sweeping the RedHawks, 3-0, gaining its third Mid-American Conference (MAC) win of the season, and tying its 2023 conference win total Friday, Oct. 4, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center.

The victory moved the Eagles' record to 9-9 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Abby Stanford finished with 11 kills on the day to lead the Eagles attack for the second time this season while finishing with a hitting percentage of .611.

Defensively, Eastern had two players reach double figures in digs as Hannah Blaney paced the squad with 15 and Ava Siefke had 10. From the front row, Aubriegh Oswald contributed a career-best six blocks and Maddie Stayer tied a career-high with five rejections.

Central Michigan 3, Ball State

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Lauren Schrock and Abby Olin finished with 18 kills apiece on Saturday as the Central Michigan volleyball bounced back with a five-set Mid-American Conference victory over Ball State at McGuirk Arena.

The Chippewas, who dropped a five-setter to the Cardinals on Friday, improved to 13-4, 5-1 MAC. CMU goes to Toledo on Thursday, Oct. 10 and to Bowling Green on Friday, Oct. 11.

The Rockets are 3-2 in MAC play while the Falcons (5-0) are in first place and are the last unbeaten team in the conference.

The Chippewas took the decisive fifth set on Saturday, 15-9, after taking sets two and three by 25-21 counts. Ball State won the opening set, 25-19, and the fourth, 25-23. Ball State is 8-7, 1-3.

Schrock, who did not play in Friday's loss, posted five kills in the fifth set on Saturday. She had three consecutive as the Chippewas reeled off three straight points for an 8-4 lead. Her fifth kill of the set brought CMU to match point.

Olin's 18 kills marked a career high; she also shared the team lead with Grace Thomas with four blocks.

Setter Allie Korba posted 53 assists for CMU and Natalia Rejment and Hannah Langton had 17 digs apiece. Rejment also had 13 kills.

Ball State finished with a .222 attack percentage to the Chippewas' .197. But CMU, which snapped a four-match losing streak to the Cardinals, hit at .333 in the fifth set to the Cardinals' .100.
 
Toledo 3, Ohio 1

ATHENS, Ohio – The Toledo women's volleyball team defeated Ohio, 3-1 (7-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-23), Saturday evening. After dropping the first set, the Rockets responded by winning the next three to grab the victory.

In the second set, Toledo (10-6, 3-2 MAC) recorded a .520 clip on 15 kills with only two errors on 25 attempts.

Izzy Granger paced the Rockets' offense, totaling 12 kills to go along with two digs and two blocks. Taylor Alt added eight kills and nine digs with a .583 hitting percentage, a new career best. Kayla Ozanich and Sierra Pertzborn each poured in six kills while Pertzborn tallied a team-high five blocks.

Sophomore setter Macy Hatkevich tallied 30 assists and 11 digs, her second-consecutive match with a double-double and her fifth of the season. Hatkevich also added a season-best five kills. Freshman libero Grace Freiberger led the team in digs with 13 while Caylee Sharkey owned a match-best three service aces.

Ohio (6-9, 2-2 MAC) was led by Kam Hunt with 17 kills.

Buffalo 3, Kent State 0

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (7-10, 3-1 MAC) swept the Kent State Golden Flashes (1-13, 0-4 MAC) on Saturday afternoon (25-18, 25-10, 25-19). The Bulls have now swept the Golden Flashes in five of the last six meetings.
 
The Bulls were aggressive on the attack as they had 17 more attempts than last night. Buffalo outhit the Golden Flashes, .283 to .053. The three-headed attack from Abby Leigh, Katrin Trebichavska and Emma Converse was lethal for the Bulls. A. Leigh had an error-free day with 11 kills and a career-high hitting percentage of .786. Trebichavska had a match-high 12 kills with Converse adding nine. Converse led the match with three aces setting a new career high.
 
Mandy Leigh added 30 assists to her career total as Maria Futey totaled 18 digs on the day. Futey is five digs away from passing Lindsay Matikosh (2000-03, 1,414) for fourth all-time in career digs.
 
It was not the best offensive set for both sides as Buffalo outhit Kent State, .075 to .000. At the media timeout, the Bulls were in the middle of a 5-0 run as they led, 17-10. The Golden Flashes fought their way back into the set, but the Bulls had three opportunities to reach set-point and capitalized on a Kent State service error to win the set, 25-18.
 
The Bulls kept it short and sweet in the second set as the took down the Golden Flashes, 25-10. Buffalo dominated with their attack as they outhit the opposition, .583 to .038. The Bulls closed the set on a 9-0 run.
 
Despite winning the third set, 25-19, the set was a one-sided affair. After being tied at 10, the Bulls pulled away as they led 15-11 at the media timeout. Buffalo totaled 17 kills in the set to Kent State's eight.
 
"It was great to get two sweeps over Kent State this weekend," stated Head Coach Scott Smith. "Both matches highlighted our offense, but what I was most pleased with was our defense. I thought we shut down Kent with tough serving and gritty defense. While there were plenty of standout performances, I was pleased with how well we played as a team."
 
The Bulls are back in action on Tuesday at Akron (7-9, 3-1 MAC) at 6 p.m.
