Tuesday Night Rivalries Kick Off Second Week of Volleyball MAC Play

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference volleyball teams begin week 2 of their conference schedule, beginning with two rivalry games between Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan and the Battle of I-75 between Toledo and Bowling Green on Tuesday evening.

At the Service Line...
  • After going 1-1 against Ohio to open conference action, Akron continues MAC play with a trip to Northern Illinois for a pair of games on October 3 and 4. Lauren Baker is 34 kills away from 500 career kills, Gabby Brissett is 15 points away from 500 career points, and Eliska Vytiskova leads the Zips with nine double-doubles. The Zips have captured the first set in 12 matches this season
  • Ball State opens the road portion of its 2024 MAC schedule with a two-match series at Central Michigan this weekend. The Cardinals will also play a Tuesday contest at Miami in its first of two mid-week #MACtion matchups with the RedHawks. Despite an 0-2 start to league play this season, Ball State maintains its status as the winningest program in league play with a 446-222 (.668) all-time MAC mark.
  • The Bowling Green State University volleyball team will begin the first of two matches in the Battle of I-75 this season, heading to Toledo on Tuesday (Oct. 1) for a 6 p.m. start. The Falcons and Rockets enter the match with a 2-0 record to start the MAC portion of the schedule, with BGSU topping Ball State and Toledo besting Northern Illinois this past weekend. The second leg of the Battle of I-75 is set for Nov. 5 in Bowling Green. 
  • Buffalo (5-10, 1-1 MAC) will host the Kent State Golden Flashes on Friday and Saturday. Buffalo is back at home in Alumni Arena for their first MAC matches of the season. The Bulls are the only MAC program that's still undefeated at home. The Bulls are coming off a weekend split at Western Michigan. After dropping Friday's match, the Bulls swept the Broncos on Saturday for their first win in University Arena since Oct. 12, 2018. In the victory, the Bulls handed the Broncos their first conference loss since Oct. 15, 2022. This also marked Buffalo's first time sweeping the Broncos.
  • Central Michigan is off to its best start since the 2019 season when the Chippewas went 10-2 in their opening 12 games. Central Michigan heads into their first home MAC game with an 11-3 record, and at 2-0 in the MAC. The Chippewas swept Miami (OH) in six straight sets to open 2024 MAC play in Oxford, Ohio, last weekend.
  • Off to its first 2-0 start in Mid-American Conference (MAC) play since 2018, the Eastern Michigan University volleyball team will travel north to face rival Central Michigan University at McGurik Arena in Mt. Pleasant, Mich., Tuesday, Oct. 1. Eastern ranks in the top-50 in the national standings in six statistical categories, including standing second in the nation (first in the MAC) in total blocks with 160.5, and ninth in America in team assists (665). The Eagles opened MAC play with a five-set win over Kent State on Sept. 26 in reverse sweep fashion.

  • Miami Volleyball returns to the court this weekend with a trip to Ypsilanti, Mich., to take on the Eastern Michigan Eagles. The RedHawks opened the conference portion of their schedule last Thursday and Friday, dropping a pair of matches to Central Michigan. Miami will welcome Ball State to Millett Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
  • After spending a majority of September on the road, Northern Illinois begins a four-game homestand on October 3 as they open MAC play hosting the University of Akron. The Huskies (2-10, 0-2 MAC) will look to defend Victor E. Court as they play on the court for the first time this season. The previous three home games were played on the main arena court inside the NIU Convocation Center.
  • The Ohio volleyball team (5-8, 1-1 MAC) returns to Athens this weekend for some Mid-American Conference action when they host Toledo (9-5, 2-0 MAC) on Oct. 4-5. Ohio is coming off a 1-1 weekend where they opened MAC play with a weekend split at Akron.
  • The Toledo women's volleyball team renews the Battle of I-75 rivalry as the Rockets host Bowling Green on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. Toledo enters the match with an overall record of 9-5 (2-0 MAC) after defeating Northern Illinois twice during the first weekend of conference play. Bowling Green has an overall record of 7-6 (2-0 MAC) after earning two wins over Ball State last weekend to open MAC competition.
  • Western Michigan hits the road for the first time in conference play this weekend as it visits Bowling Green. The Broncos are coming off of a split of a two-match series against Buffalo last weekend to open MAC play. WMU had five different players record at least eight kills on its way to a sweep in Friday's opener, but the Bulls came back and took a 3-0 decision to earn the split on Saturday. Logan Case leads the MAC and is second in NCAA Division I at 11.51 assists/set. The fifth-year setter has WMU at the top of the league in both assists/set (13.11, 15th in NCAA DI) and kills/set (13.91, 18th). The NCAA's active leader in career assists with 5,638, last weekend Case climbed into fourth in conference history in career assists.
